No, it's real. Just a promotional photo of Nicole Kidman for one of her movies. From memory I think it was 'Portrait of a Lady' (aptly named)

Haha, yes very aptly. She looks very airbrushed tongue

Its interesting that none of the women have heads.
Objects.
Personally i dont care what other people want to do on thier own time, but this is a place where everyone
should feel comfortable....including intelligent women with heads who dont feel like being turned into objects.

One of the woman doesn't have a head. That's mine, to suggest that a picture of what's on my desktop is a good enough reason to deduce that posting it objectifies women, is kind of silly. If I posted a picture of Kate Sheppards head, you wouldn't argue it's portraying her as just a figure of women's suffrage, and not a real woman...

EDIT: Ok the using Kate Sheppard like that was fairly weak. However there are pictures like this all over the internet, I highly doubt anyone'd be screaming objectification had I posted him instead of her. Some people need to step down from their high horse sometimes. The male abdomen/chest isn't as relevant to my interestests as a female counterpart... So naturally, I'd prefer it on my desktop.

Are women now required to post headless shots of themselves in their avatar?
I do however think some of these backdrops could be posted with "modesty" terminator sessions appropriately placed.

More important, if the backdrop is the only draw, unless you made it yourself, I can't see much point in posting at all - surely the point of a screenshot is to show how you've integrated a wallpaper, menus, conky, gtk theme, icons, etc?

Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

The point of posting a desktop, can be anything you want. You can show off your conky in the conky thread. Reasons for posting a desktop are for the viewing pleasure of others, that can refer to anything. Panels, conky, background... I enjoy looking and browsin desktop threads, some desktops aren't original, but it stlil doesn't detract from their viewing pleasure. And modesty terminals don't work if your terminal is transparent tongue

Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

Hmm, maybe we should have a thread called "some nice pictures", but I guess people look for different things on this thread - personally I'm more interested in what people have constructed.

Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

I'd have thought the purpose of these monthly 'Screenshot' posts are to share your theme set ups and give others ideas on how to customize #!. Wallpapers are a part of that but some thought needs to be given to the type of image posted here, sexy pictures are easy enough to find on the internet, they don't need to be here, and guys posting pictures of women is hardly original or creative. It's quite juvenile, isn't it ?

Posting a picture of a woman's chest and saying it doesn't objectify women is one of the dumbest things I've read for a long time.

Personally I agree with aim. Secondly we should get this thread back on topic and not focus on what people choose as their wallpapers.

Wow, does it really have to be this serious? They are the desktops of individuals with a right to choose what they want to consider pleasing in terms of design, beauty, form or function. When did sharing something so determined by personal choice become subject to judgment and accusations of varying degrees. Let just focus on the software people less on personal politics and what is perceived to be "correct or incorrect" in a public space.

For some reason the full size version of the clean shot will not show up at full size (1440x900). It's good enough to see the shot, though. That being said, is there a better photo hosting site than photobucket? I hate it.

[OT] I still treat women (on this forum and in real life) as people, as I did before that picture. Do you? I really don't believe the absence of a persons head is grounds to suggest that the picture is objectifying, art can be many things... I think your definition is too colloquial, and you (or the first accuser) was applying this picture to things that need not apply. [/OT]

Re: September 2009 Screenshots thread

Guys,

I don't have any screenshot to post but i just wanted to share with you my two cents....largley off topic.. feel free to delete if unappropriate...

I believe in a peaceful world where people can have different opinions, I know this can sound a bit utopic but we all have dreams... big_smile
at the same time I would like to see Crunchbang forum as a nice and relaxed forum where we can all share our passion for Corenominal's creation.
I have seen some of the last posts and I am under the impression that it will be impossible to find some kind of common grounds, we all have different sensitivity and we react to things in a different way.
As I see it, a desktop with a wallpaper that someone could consider sexist was posted,  someone described the author of the post as a women objectifier.
I might be wrong but probably boths parties are partially wrong (or right...), probably the "headless woman" poster would have not posted the wallpaper if he thought that it would have offended someone, he just didn't think it would.
At the same time, judging someone by his wallpaper seems a bit over the top to me.

Ok, I am at the end of my 2 cents, I just hope we could all forget about all this and go back to the original topic of this thread...

Take care

M
