Topic: Medium Edition

The light version is too lightweight, but the normal edition is bloated with unneeded programs. Ideally, a version in which there ar slghtly more programs than nromal are in.

Basically, it's Lite with all the settings changing apps, Claws, Pidgin, GIMP, GPicView, AbiWord, Gnumeric, a calculator, Evince, and Rhythmbox. Features that people normally use, but you wouldn;t have to get the bloat Standard includes, or the featureless Lite.

(I consider Agave, and other stuff as normal users don't need them, or people would rarely use.)

Re: Medium Edition

And maybe a version between medium and full, for the users that don't need ALL of the bloat but SOME? we call it AlmostFull then. And I have a dream of an AlmostFull+, featuring two additional wallpapers...

I'm so meta, even this acronym

I just ran Agave because I saw you said it was bloat and I was curious as to what it was.   I am glad you turned me on to this program, I've been using the color picker in Nitrogen to design my palettes.  I am certain this program will be extremely useful to me.

Re: Medium Edition

Making an edition to satisfy everyone would result in endless remixes.

Besides, removing and installing applications is easy enough. So just take the Lite or Standard version and customize it for your needs.

Re: Medium Edition

Bloated? smile Agave is 988kb. If you really need that <1mb for some other purpose:

sudo apt-get remove agave

Or, as mentioned above, start with the Lite version and install your favorite applications.

Re: Medium Edition

I'm With the rest on this one. There are just too many people to please in this area. Just take the light, and install what you want.

Re: Medium Edition

Oh the Goldilocks thread again...

...and Goldilocks installed the first distro and said "This distro is too bloated". So Goldilocks installed the second distro and said "This one is too minimal". Then she installed the third distro and said "Ahhh, this distro is just right".

Re: Medium Edition

Why is it important that every application needs to be useful to every user?

I've never once used the "delicates" cycle on my dryer, does that mean my dryer is "bloated"? smile

Re: Medium Edition

I removed a lot stuff because on an Eee 901 it just isn't necessary. On the other hand I installed a few things that I don't want to miss. With apt-get/synaptic/aptitude it's really not that hard to remove or install things you (don't) want. I've done that with every distro I'd had ever installed (and there were MANY!). It's what makes Linux systems great: the ability to customize everything to your needs.

So: there's no need for a medium edition.

Re: Medium Edition

Medium edition = desktop edition + sudo apt-get remove or run synaptic and uninstall
Medium edition = lite edition + sudo apt-get install or run synaptic and install

+1 to no need for medium edition

Yes, that's the meaning. Your dryer should download each mode from the interwebz everytime you desire to clean your non Sims clothes. This way the publisher can make sure you are licenced to use the module. For every three times you use lemon fresh, you will recieve an extra lemon fresh+ for free.
