Topic: Difference between 'free' and 'available' disk space

System Monitor says I have 217MB free but only 67MB 'available' out of a total 2.7GB. PCManFM says I have 67MB to play with. I'm not sure about the reason for the discrepancy. There seems to be nothing in lost+found. Any ideas why and any ideas how I can use the whole 217MB?

Have you cleared the Trash Bin? Also how much free space does GParted report?

GParted shows the 217MB figure. How do I clear the Trash Bin? Thunar's Wastebasket is showing empty.

Thanks. I have ext4 but I guess it must be the same thing. Looks like the advice is to always add 5% when preparing partitions.
