Topic: #! feedback

I'm still very much new to Linux.  I started with Ubuntu Jaunty.  Really liked it but my laptop (a Asus K40IN) and Ubuntu didn't like each other.  After the second crash I looked around for a different distro.  I have the same problem twice in Ubuntu.  Anybody want to guess where I landed? big_smile  Installation was a breeze.  I lost all of my personal data when Ubuntu crashed.  While that still hurts,  it wasn't so bad and I now own yet another thumb drive (luckily all my photos were on my other key, there was just no room for my other docs.)  I absolutely love how easy #! was to configure to my likes and how easy it is to get help on here.  The only thing I'd really like is a HOWTO for the terminal.  All of those command lines in one easy tutorial for newbies like me.  Adeskbar should also join the repos, its a great app.  Just took me multiple tries to get it to run.  Gnotes is also missing from the repos, but Tomboy was there.  I have to say that the wireless is great.  I have an atheros card that rarely ran in Vista and only once in a while in Ubuntu.  In #! all I have to do is boot and wireless is instantly there.  So all in all #! is a great distro, I'm very happy with it.  Only my hotkeys are still not all working.  Great work everyone that makes #! run like it does.

Re: #! feedback

I like looking at www.commandlinefu.com but I don't know whether that would be beginner friendly. There is quite a lot of stuff on there.

Running Crunchbang on eee pc 701 and Dell Mini 10v.

Re: #! feedback

That's a good start as any.  Looks interesting. Thanks.

Re: #! feedback

inx is relatively decent for an intro to cli stuff http://inx.maincontent.net/ . you can load it up in virtualbox to play around with it.(or you can install if you want)

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

What kind of crash? A crash shouldn't result in (significant) data loss.

Re: #! feedback

I could no longer access the hard drive, my screen was black when I tried to log in and nothing I tried changed that so I was forced to overwrite it for #! as I needed a working laptop the next morning after spending 3 days looking for a solution.  One of the problems I got id'd was that the graphics driver disappeared and that was the second time that happened.
