Topic: My experience with crunchbang..

I personally love this distro of Linux, automatically detects all my drivers, including the ones for my new speakers and wireless adapter.

Thank you crunchbang #! staff and community for making the best OS ever!

You are welcome, but to be fair, the majority of the credit should go to the Debian, Ubuntu and upstream application developers and communities. wink

Wasn't it Newton who talked about standing on the shoulders of Giants?

Sure #! is based on Ubuntu and the whole Canonical thing is amazing, and credit must be given to them.  However, this distro is really everything i want from a distro, taking ubuntu further than just a windows competitor.

The problem with many distros is their similarity in trying to compete with Windows or Mac.  This has meant Linux has never  (IMO) really had its own style and visual identity.

#! does has a definite look, a style, that is also different to Windows/Mac and so offers a proper alternative.

This is the first distro I have wanted to show off to Windows users for its style!

I know not everyone wants such a minimalist approach or don't want to bother with learning how to manipulate openbox, conky, etc (and that's fine for them)- but there are clearly many (as I do) who want a grown up distro and don't need to be persuaded to come away from Windows by an appeal to 'look-alike' GUIs.

The fact that it works so well - getting all my hardware first time, etc, and so fast - only strengthens it's position.

Thanks for a great distro! wink

Re: My experience with crunchbang..

i definately agree with JONOlewis it is an epidemic with the windows lookalikes and such. it seems that a fever has broke out. but when i came to this distro, though most of the tools are familiar from using ubuntu, its the look and simplicity that has grabbed me. i spend alot of time converting windows users to ubuntu, and now most ask how theirs can look like mine. so now i know which one im going to be pushing. and ive only been through a few pages of the forums, but there is a huge difference compared to those of ubuntu. i hope i can be as helpful in the future to some as those who's comments on here have help me. smile

failure is only a negative way to describe a learning experience.
i am constantly learning. smile

Re: My experience with crunchbang..

I have to agree with those two,,,What you have here is way different then any other distro ive used,,,Its not hard to learn,,and believe it to user friendly,,Im still a beginner in the linux world,,And figured out how to do openbox and Conky and now tint.It didnt take me long to do.This forum has saved my but numerous times
and believe its another reason why #! rules in my book.
Ive been in other Linux forums,,,Much bigger forums,,But here i feel you get a personal touch with the help that is provided,,,,As far as im concerned you do deserve alot of the credit,,,You put it all together...
