Topic: A couple of *very* minimalistic #! wallpapers

Doing some Inkscaping over the lunchbreak today and I thought I'd post a couple of 1920x1200 wallpapers for those with really minimalistic tastes (like myself most times).

Very minimalistic, and very nice. I personally prefer the dark one, but then living with corenominal is brightness enough in my life. lol

Both look good but especially dark one is very sexy *saves in wallpaper folder* smile

Thanks for the nice replies!

I ran Openbox+Ubuntu for several months quite a while back (before I had ever heard of Crunchbang). I recently purchased a decent video card for my 6 yr old pc so I've gone back to stock Ubuntu just to play with Compiz a little more wink - for the time being. But when it starts to feel sluggish (which it eventually will I'm sure)  I'm thinking of going with #!. It seems much like my openbox+ubuntu install, only more polished and requiring much less hand-tweaking which I grew a little tired of after a while. I loved the minimalistic and custom nature (and the snappiness), but was missing a few of the nice polished tweaks that Crunchbang provides.

I actually did a few openbox related wallpapers over at box-look.org a while back too: http://box-look.org/usermanager/search. … n=contents

Anyway, it's great to see such an active artwork community here.

^ I used to run compiz and gnome on top of a CrunchBang install. I enjoyed it more than a vanilla ubuntu because I got to choose which parts of gnome I wanted.

^^i'm actually run my 'fusion-box': a compiz-standalone (without gnome) config with all #!features (middle-click menu on desktop with 'compiz-deskmenu', and keybinding openbox-style) and apps.
all works fine and it's very light & eye-candy (as fast as legal-#!)
so, with rfquerin wall, tint, trayer &fbpanel-menu & fbpanel-launchers:

Yeah, it would be nice to run Crunchbang without Gnome but with Compiz... arpbook - I may be pestering you with questions in the near future! wink

When I ran Openbox on Ubuntu I ended up using xcompmgr to get window shadows and transparency. Those were really the two effects I really wanted to have. But it was a bit rough in handling Conky sometimes (shadowing was tricky) and affected some other apps as well.

Looks like you guys have given me yet something else to investigate! smile This is why I love linux.. so many options and things to try.

xcompmgr is easy to enable in crunchbang. Preferences-->Compositing-->enable Compositing

It's not an openbox and compiz thing just compiz used as a stand-alone. Check the links in arpbooks post on setting it up.

I'm assuming you mean for the #! symbols in the wallpaper?

I didn't use a font. I drew them in Inkscape using rectangles and then tweaking them (curving the sides, skewing them etc.) until I got what I wanted.

I've posted the svg file if anyone wants to play with it in Inkscape. You can download it directly, here's the link:
