Re: default games

I like no games because

1. They are easy to add.
2. I want the lightest functional distro.

At the very least, don't put any game in #! lite versions.

p.s. E.g., I have only 4G on my eee laptop and I want to save the space for Dragon NaturallySpeaking via Wine (if I can get there).

Re: default games

why not have a few cool but slim console and X-games ?
not in #! lite of course, this really should be the lightest possible setup

while we're at it, a long time ago I had an Elite / Frontier game that used ascii art for graphics ...
anyone remember this and could tell me the name ?

Edit: was in another thread, it's called "ascii sector: privateer"

A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila (Mitch Ratcliffe)

Re: default games

galaga... nice idea!

I found a good old Namco original version for my pda (Windows), but dont know if it is available  in .deb...

Re: default games

^ I don't know about the Namco original, but have you searched Synaptic for...'galaga'? wink

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: default games

Xgalaga, yes i tried it. Unfortunately, is graphically different, and silent. The original "buzzing" sound make me feel a quarter century younger.

Anyway, could be a good choice.

Re: default games

yeah andrea! I played a version on c64 about two decades ago: It was ASCII lightblue on darkblue screen (default colours), terrible buzzing sound, more terrible screaming sound when done a perfect score.  I LOVED IT.

the aliens could steal your ship with that wicked tractor-beam, but you could shoot the ship-carrying alien, without shooting your hijacked ship, then grab that damn ship again and have double cannon!

EDIT:
found a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGOzE4bqufs there was a RGB version as well: http://www.classic-pc-games.com/thumbs/ … aga_01.jpg)

I dont recommend watching the video, he just too good..no tractor beam.

there was a fancier version, though.. but one similar to that one for the terminal.. be'll nice.

Re: default games

Since even Damn Small Linux brings some games on, #! can afford it, too. There are some time consuming, simple games, that wouldn't take that much space.
The 'install it afterwards' argument isn't really one, because you could use it on Gimp (should kept as a part of it, too, in future) and other stuff like a graphical ftp client or mutt (and other redundancies we have with gui and terminal applications in #!).
Games have always played a role (look at Unix). We shouldn't disdain them.

Its not that #! cant afford them and its not that #! disdains games...its that games didnt fit into phillip's idea of his personal, minimal distro which is what #! is.

I sometimes simply forget, that it's a personal project, I'm runnning my tasks on at home. big_smile
However, its up to the master of the project, of course. Didn't mean to sound dictator-style. wink

Maybe, we should just put this topic to rest and wait for Phillip changing his mind (or not).

I know, its crazy to think something so professional-linux looking is a personal project...maybe thats one of many reasons why we all like it so much smile

Besides, if theres one thing internet kids disagree about more than what distro/apps to have, its what games are the "best" tongue
