Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
@mahatman2 - You could use if_match to check the value of new_mails and have Conky put a "you've got mail" jpg where your mailbox is when new_mails > 0. You'd have to expand Conky so that it covers your mailbox though, or have a separate instance running on that corner or your desktop. Syntax would be something like
${if_match ${new_mails} > 0}${image ~/newmail.jpg -p 10,10 -s 30x30}${endif}
I've also seen some people using Conky to call a bash script that uses notify-send to send an icon to the notification area and play a sound! I don't know how to do it myself, but it's an interesting idea!

It's called Fresh_Morning.jpg. If you find the original source, can you pop it up here for us? Thx.
Took awhile; there are lots of Fresh Morning desktop wallpapers on the net. But here it is.

Ah, yes, as I thought, it's one of the ones that I copied from my KDE 4.3 install before I ditched it and went all Crunchy/Bangy ![]()

Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
Already posted this in my recent intro post, but thought I'd just share here.
Still pretty standard. Will probably create a nicer wallpaper when I'm free and will definitely check out (and politely steal) all the cool conky setups in the conky threads!! ![]()

Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
@Jean Pute - Nice photo! Is that an Ansel?
@iggykoopa - Wow that's a lot of Conky; I see four instances at least. That's your Mini, right? How do you keep your Atom's cycles down with all that? Mine was running over 70% capacity when I had two sessions open, and they didn't have as much going on as yours; I also didn't have adeskbar running. <3 the wallpaper.
Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
VILLA 21, here is the link for the icon set I used:
http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/
ent=101979
it has most mime-types and common icons, however, the author decided not to include application icons (it's explained in the README or somewhere).....hope this helps.
oh, and iggykoopa, how do you get a poem on your conky? I'm assuming it's changeable.....am I wrong? I'm studying poetry right now at college and would love to have a poem-a-day conky thing.

Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
With the conky stuff it's not that bad because the weather only updates every two hours and the tao te ching quotes only update every hour. The album art is every three seconds and the top bar is every second. Just seperate information you don't need updated frequently and it helps a lot.
for the quotes I'm using fortune, I just found someone that had already put the tao te ching in fortune format. If you look around you should be able to find some poetry for it as well. If not it's not that difficult to format it yourself.
oh I'm also using avant-window-navigator not adeskbar.(adeskbar is great but I wanted the system tray applet)
Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
very nice
Tao Te Ching conky, brilliant. Did I miss a link or can you share please?
Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
I forget if this is where I got it from, but here's a link that I found http://www.geocities.com/kensanata/tao.tar.gz . If I remember right you extract that to /usr/share/games/fortune then launch fortune like:
${execi 360 fortune tao}
you'll have to doublecheck if it's tao, use whatever the name of the .dat file is from the tar file. The 360 makes it change once an hour, you can change that as you like.

Re: November 2009 Screenshot Thread
Trying out Debian Lenny with Openbox and really liking it. I had to install an old CrunchBang theme, because I find the #! themes the most consistent and aesthetically pleasing GTK themes: DarknessReturns-Clearlooks (well, I could not keep away from darkness too long...). The wallpaper is my own compilation of a Tour de France 1912 photo and the Debian logo.
Yes, I would indeed like a DebianBang. #! CrunchBang is already very stable (in spite of the name and disclaimer) but I guess Debianizing might make it even more stable...?

@omns
Nice!! ... did you use the Flame render plugin found in GIMP?
I like that tool, but hardly use it. Never managed to get them to look as sharp as yours.
Oh... I checked out your DeviantArt gellery (hope you don't mind) and really like some of your minimalist work... I may order a print in the coming months (if finances allow for it)
Still early days with Crunch Bang for me. Haven't had the time to start theming yet (although I'm quite satisfied with the stock look, tbh)
Made a new wallpaper, though.
Can someone recommend a nice, clean font style for my conky, please? ~<3
Edit:
@Piraja
Very nice combo.
I actually was thinking of a Debian + OpenBox/FluxBox combo before I settled on CrunchBang Lite for my netbook. If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you to get everything set up, and did you run into any problems along the way?

It's still under construction... as always. The default Debian (with Gnome DE) + Openbox combo is of course far from the out-of-the-box excellence of CrunchBang, but everything has gone pretty smoothly and I haven't really encountered any mentionable problems. I borrowed a lot of stuff from my two existing #! installations. Some questions always come up, of course. As it comes to the look and feel, and especially wallpapers, I realized that the choice of background is not persistent if I use just Nitrogen ("nitrogen --restore" in Openbox's autostart.sh), but I had to change it in gnome-control-center.
I very much like your wallpaper, by the way. I can't really recommend a font – it's so much a matter of personal taste – but dafont.com is a marvellous site. The typewriter font in my conky is Typenoksidi by Junkohanhero, downloaded from Dafont.

euh..
i used google and searched "sky" (1280x800 and bw) and the 4th result was pretty good!
