Topic: 9.10 unofficial .iso - one small hangup

Funny Background
I almost turned my mini 9 into a hackintosh, except that it had the HP mini EFI so without the usb it was a complete failure. So I installed the 9.10 beta I had hanging around as a quick "oh $%*& I need my computer for school...like now." And now that I have 300MB of updates done (what!!!?!?!) I want to come back to #!, but I am torn between the pretties of 9.10, the speed of its bootup, and the cloud (workaround now exists thx to phillip).

The Issue

I installed 9.10 minimal in a Virtual Machine, ran the #! script and okay, all done. It wont load openbox because it cant get the DISPLAY parameter - whatever that means. Its okay because I can get cli from booting in safe mode, which is all i technically need. The problem is that I want to make a .iso from the virtual machine, but remastersys has a casper dependency and a something else dependency that arent up to date with 9.10 and therefore apt-get says they cant be resolved, even with apt-get --force-yes install. So I was looking for some help with a way to make a .iso from the system that way we could at least have a 9.10 unofficial download for us impatient immature kids who love #! like the proverbial fat kid loves cake smile

Re: 9.10 unofficial .iso - one small hangup

your display setting problem sounds like a problem with x
are other window managers working?, how are you starting it.
have you got an ~/.xinitrc file with exec openbox-session
have you checked the logs?

regarding remastersys, you could perhaps look around for a deb separately.

I think you'll have several problems with this method apart from remastersys. The 9.04.01 install script applies a pin to apt that gives preference to the the crunchbang repositiories. This will mean you will now have several packages installed that are compiled against and for jaunty/9.04.01 which will bring some stability issues. To solve your remaster sys problem you'll probably have to install from source and see if that works although at the moment I think it is generally broken in karmic.

My general advice would be to wait until corenominal produces a testing script for 9.10.01 before producing any unofficial isos. This will cause less confusion for everyone.

Well, the idea that an unofficial version would cause more headache than official is why its "unofficial" smile

But eitherway - like many have been finding out - karmic is FTL right now, so I'm going to look at either #! 9.04 or some debian action, so this idea thread is officially tossed out for now
