Topic: untap the power of the community

I'm sure #! (and other ubuntu-based distro) is trying to get an official release pushed out based on 9.10.
I suggest having alpha, beta, and rc# releases.  And let the #! geeks run them and provide bug reports
and other problems.

I noted there are already unofficial releases of #! 9.10 floating around.  I.e., instead of #! geeks creating
their own versions of #! 9.10, let them run the official #! 9.10 alpha, beta, and rc# version.  This has the
advantage of creating the next release quicker and more stable (while geeks can run the latest stuffs).

corenominal, this distro is yours.   You are our benevolent dictator (like Linus is for linux) so the decision is yours.
It just seems that alot effort is "wasted" because #! geeks are doing their own stuffs instead of helping you.
If you do this, you might want to create another subforum, "testing", so that #! geeks can submit problems
there instead of "help & support".

Pardon me if this is already going on.  If so, let me know what is going on.

Actually, part of what's going on may be that Phil never wanted this to be a real distro in the first place, which is also the reason he tries to frighten people off with his warning that "nothing may work if you install this."

If an actual team of developers were to emerge, we might become an organization, and that's a scary idea

Why is that scary?

OK, I'm the new kid on the block and just yesterday someone refered to "Dr. Phil" and then "Phil" and I was still in the dark.  So these two messages have cleared that up.  I know who Phil is, right "c"!

So again, why is that scary?

Have a nice day.

For what it is worth, I have no real idea how many people are using it, and I think I would like to keep it that way. big_smile

because you think the count will be extraordinarily high, or embarrassingly low ?

Because if I knew how many actual users there were, I probably would not sleep overly well. CrunchBang was never really supposed to be anything other than a personal project. I think it is great that other people enjoy using it, but it still makes me feel nervous to think that they actually do. neutral

Oh! {click}.

So here we are 74,735,926 people using Phil's personal project. (just jokin' with the number)

And Lovin' It ! ! ! !  Give the man a beer!

I'll have a coke please!

You do good work Dr. Phil

And in part answer to Sheng-Chieh, the #!'ers that are trying things are helping Phil.

Since #! is a "one man band" other people dabbling in it and looking under the hood are bringing things to light that Phil can either, implement or ignore, his choice.

Look at it this way, Phil's the Master Chef in a huge restaurant.  His word is carved in stone.  Every customer is eating stew from Phil's Pot.

One day Phil stops by a sub-chef's area and tastes the stew there.  "Nice what did you add?"
"xyz"
Oh - and next thing you know Phil's pot has xyz in it.

He stops by my pot, takes a taste and fires me on the spot!  "Horrible!"

Ideas come from every angle and source, the #! geeks, as you call them, are helping, and that's the beauty of Linux.  Every distro is a different pot, and for everyone tasting the contents of a pot they have the right to add their own ingredients, to their portion.  Once that's done, they can share it, or keep it for themselves.  The #! geeks are sharing it and we are all benefiting!

Just my opinion here.

Have a nice day.

Of course, when I eat out, I always have a small bottle of Tabasco in my pocket...and so with any Linux I might use, I might add a little sumpin sumpin. (=something something, said real, real fast, for those of you who do not live inside the belt of 270 here in Urban Midwest, USA)

Wow, green Tabasco #!. Now I have to go work on that. Hmmm...
