Topic: gFTP out / Filezilla in / where's the WYZIWIG?

#! is my dream distro! Just found it now, after looked at the application list two suggestions straight up. (I'm a web developer)

I have given gFTP a decent run for it's money, and I have to say that it absolutely pales in comparison to FileZilla. That's the first thing I'll wipe and replace on my install. gFTP is a slug, FileZilla blows it out of the water. The version of FileZilla in the Ubuntu repositories is great.

There are plenty of editing options in this distro > sound, video, images, etc. where's the WYZIWIG? Quanta Plus is a brilliant choice. I did notice a preponderance of GTK applications? Is there a theme here? Is KDE style out perhaps? How would Quanta Plus look in the #! environment?  FLAME ON!    just joking smile

Re: gFTP out / Filezilla in / where's the WYZIWIG?

Although not a WYSIWYG html/css editor, I use Aptana Studio for my web development. I have been running it on !#Crunchbang for 6months or so and it works flawlessly; like everything else! Combine it with Gimp and Inkscape then you are away, fully open source! You can even run it all on an Atom powered nettop as I do.
Quanta Plus is a nice application and works fine on !#Crunchbang. I used it for a bit but then made the transition to hand coding my html and css.
Have fun.

Thanks for the tip on Aptana, will have to give it a try. Very happy to hear Quanta works A-OK big_smile. Same on the hand coding. I find a wyziwig an indispensable help at times, usually when it's a tad late and I'm getting sleepy. lol

Yup, GTK plays nice with Openbox.  You can use KDE apps (I've used KolourPaint when I was jonesing for a Paint clone); they just bring in KDE dependencies.  They don't hurt anything, but loading and dumping the dependencies makes the K apps launch and die slowly.

Re: gFTP out / Filezilla in / where's the WYZIWIG?

I totally agree that Gftp fails in so many places that it doesn't even need to be compared to Filezilla[which I love!]
for one thing Filezilla is more intuitive. I had to fidget for several minutes to discover basic functionality with Gftp.
Filezilla totally rocks
