Topic: Samsung N120 10" netbook setup and customization.

hello all,

Recently acquired this netbook to replace my old apple and decided to put crunchbang on it. Very glad I did smile, works flawlessly and runs faster than windows on more powerful laptops big_smile

At first I had a crunchbox sticker I made glued on the front which due to the amount of ink from the high quality print formed scuffs and scrapes easily. Since then I took an existing photograph (credit photographer Nick Brandt photo: "ElephantsMGD") through a session with gimp and performed the same process but sealed it when it was to a critical point with laminate paper.

It needs some work with the laminate, perhaps experimentation with heat application? Eventually I want to be able to change it periodically without causing permanent damage to the casing but keep it a little more professional in the corners.

The trick is in burnishing all the layers (print glued via stick glue, laminate self adhesive) with a ruler from the center out to remove bubbles and wrinkles.

Only been configuring for a couple days; expect to be working on that for at least another week getting last couple bugs out and installing everything I want.

I'd love to hear what people think!

Will post more if anyone wants to see.

I'd love to make some friends here and meet some people who can show me the error in my ways when I stray.

Update:

Here are a couple more ideas for covers (or maybe just backgrounds)

As for anyone who would like to replicate the effect of the one I made, I didn't note that it was purposely attacked with fingerprints, fingernails, and a ruler for a good 10-15 minutes. It's too messy to let it happen naturally over time leaving ink over clothes, house, animals, etc... Plus you can control rather precisely the effect you want.
