Topic: [solved] Omns: using xfce menu for right-click.

Hey Omns, or anyone else who rings in,

If you don't mind me asking, I've noticed in your screen shots, your right-click menu appears to be the xfce applications menu. I tried running xfdesktop, but of course the right-click menu a general menu, in which 'applications' is just an entry. How do you get it so that the right click opens the applications menu?

Also, I don't really want icons on the desktop, but I can live with having the capability. But the problem is that xfdesktop defaults to displaying the contents of ~ on my desktop instead of ~/Desktop. Know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance!

Go to Desktop Settings > Menus > make sure "Show applications menu..." is checked then go to the Icons tab and change the icon type to None.

Thanks Anonymous, but that's not exactly the results I'm looking for.  When I right-click I get a menu which gives the me options to create new files, open a terminal, properties, etc. At the bottom of that menu is the icon for the applications menu. I'd like to make it so that ONLY the applications menu appears so the behavior is just like the openbox menu, the main difference being that the xfce menu is slightly more sophisticated.

Thanks again.

Best regards,

Tim.

Did you make the second change I wrote? Go to the Icons tab and change the icon type to None.

I think in Omns screen shots he's using XFCE+Conky+Tint2 like here http://fc05.deviantart.net/fs51/f/2009/ … y_omns.png (I could be wrong of course only he really knows).

Are you trying to run openbox with the XFCE menu? I don't fully understand what it is exactly you're trying to do. If you're looking for a #! style with the XFCE menu it seems like you'd have to reverse engineer it. Install XFCE, kill the xfce4panel, use Tint2 instead, run a Conky and do what anonymous said to get the menu and desktop icons set up.

I'm not sure what config files you'd have to change to get things working at start-up though, but it looks like you could use XFCE's session manager to do it. If that's what you're looking for I'm sure a Guru on here could help better than I could. I haven't played with XFCE for a good long while.

Hope that helps a bit.

Anonymous, why would I ever second guess you? There was something odd, and even though the icon type was set to none, that wasn't what was applied. I changed it to something else, and then back to none, and now its working just fine.

Thank you so very much.

Oh, and thanks Zen:Core too. I don't want to do anything that drastic though. I just want to use xfce to control the right-click menu. Nice and easy.

Thanks again.

Best regards,

Tim.

yes, that is the trick to getting it to work. I'm not sure why it has to be changed then changed back again. Oh well, a happy ending smile

The screen link is dead. What is the OP referring to?
