Topic: Include build-essential by default
Build-essential is a necessity for compiling drivers and sometimes a user will need it to get their internet working.

I agree (even though it's not too big of a deal to install it).
build-ESSENTIAL ![]()
But not in the in the lite version. Want to keep the lite version as lite as possible.

Personally I would not want build-essential excluded from one version (Lite). It is not something that only users of CrunchBang Standard would use.
what kind of size are we talking about for build essential, personally i wouldn't be against it if it wasn't a huge package
A definite +1 for including build-essential.
What about Python3?
@benj1 - Fresh #! Full install, build-essential was 52.9MB according to Synaptic. There may be additional dependencies not included in the Lite distro.

at the moment there isnt anything that uses python3 so theres no reason to include it, except for programmers who can just install it them selves.
@pvsage
thats quite a big package, although i agree with anonymous' reasons, i wonder if there is a cut down/busy box package available

Bigger than I expected, but Im sure we can remove some existing stuff to make room ![]()

true, in the default install theres quite a few things surplus to requirements, ie metacity and bmpanel, is the size worth it tho, how many people need it to compile an internet driver that cant get online any other way?
the only example i can think of is people who have access to wireless but not wired internet
