Topic: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

Hi

For anyone not subscribed to the mailing list, there is a new CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 LiveCD available for testing.

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

This post  ( same as the post from the old forum) says you were hoping to work on the final build this last weekend (22nd - 23rd November '08).   I was wondering if you could update us on when you may try for a final build now?

Eric

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

Hi Eric

The final build is nearly complete and should be available within the next couple of days, hopefully sometime tomorrow. FWIW, I received far more feedback than I thought I would and it has taken a bit longer to go through it all than I anticipated. Sorry for the delay. On the plus side, it has given everyone enough time to run some thorough tests.

Regarding changes to the final build, so far they are all fairly trivial, more tweaks than anything else. I will publish a list of changes from testing to final once the release is out. Hopefully it'll save anyone from having to download the entire image again.

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

If I install the testing version of Intrepid, will synaptic bring me up to the release or will I have some differences between the updated testing build and the final release build ?

Thanks,

B

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

Hi B

The final build is complete and I am hoping to replace the current image sometime tonight. To be honest, the changes are tweaks to config files on the LiveCD, they are quite trivial and very easy to implement. I will be publishing the list of changes with the release notes.

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

I'll wait for the final then. As it's not mentioned on the website, I just searched the mailinglist about the differences between the standard and lite edition. I've seen, that lite is basically stripped of all the apps, but what exactly remains in the lite edition?

The lite edition is basically the same as the standard edition, but it is stripped of most desktop applications. All configuration and preference applications remain, as do a few essential* applications, such as the terminal, editor and web browser.

A lite version of 8.10.01 will be produced once the final standard build is released.

* As I am sure you can appreciate, what can be defined as an essential is very subjective.

Re: CrunchBang Linux 8.10.01 Testing

My testing of 8.10.01 is zooming along and I'm really looking forward to this final release (Particularly the lite version). I have a whole new system setup on my main machine planned using #!CrunchBang as a base cool
