Re: Text Editors Megathread

Mostly Vim these days. Nano occasionally for simple stuff or when I do a fresh install (which has been a rare occurrence recently). Gotten too used to Vi bindings to feel comfy on anything else. MCedit (Midnight Commander's built-in editor) was what I used most often before Vim. Have always wanted to dig deeper into Emacs, but never got 'round to it.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

gedit does have some nice plugins, but since moving to #!, been happy with geany.   Being that one of the reasons of moving to a distro such as #! was to improve my overall linux / CLI skills, I try to stay w/in the terminal using either nano or vi when editing and viewing files.

For coding I have been using Sublime-text for the past year or so.  You can also enable vi mode editing which is a nice feature.  Sublime-text is a text-mate like editor.  Give it a try if your looking for something new.  It also works with windows, so if you go back and forth or have a dual boot set up, that is definitely a plus to be able to use the same editor, no matter what.

the rocky path may just be the best path.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

vim, as long it's not some stuff for school, such as essays. I force myself to use it in order to improve my skills.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

Ever since discovering and falling in love with the addon Vimperator, I thought I should probably check out Vim and start learning it. And just like Vimperator I'm really enjoying it. I didn't know about the vimtutor that el_koraco mentioned though, so that was actually pretty helpful. Vim isn't nearly as complicated as it seems at first glance and it is actually extremely quick once you learn it(just like the addon).

Before Vim though, Leafpad was my preferred Gui text editor and Nano was my preferred Cli editor.

You should check out http://dactyl.sourceforge.net/pentadactyl/ which is even better :-)
The developers of Vimperator abandoned the original (reasons why are on their site somewhere) and came up with Pentadactyl.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

Actually I've given Pentadactyl a try a couple times but switched back to Vimperator since Pentadactyl was kind of slow. Which I'm guessing is due to the browser I'm using, Swiftfox 3.6, and because it's an older version I have to use an older version Pentadactyl.

So if I ever decide to install Iceweasel and update it to a new version(which I'll probably have to do soon since more and more add ons aren't working with 3.6, but I tried updating Iceweasel once before but was unsuccessful, I'm on Stable though) then I'll give the new versions of Pentadactyl a shot and see how they are. But for now I'm stuck with Vimperator.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

The majority of the time that I am using a text editor it's for notetaking and editing my todo list. For that, nano is brilliant. I only really use gedit if I am reorganising a document.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

Gedit, can be turned into a very nice IDE with all the plugins.

Re: Text Editors Megathread

Most used to Gedit but since the latest #! comes with Geany I will probably try it out. If I do not like it I`ll just "apt-get" Gedit, gedit?

#!, all else is but a shadow!
