Topic: Beautiful theme!

First, thank you to Corenominal and all the others who saved me so many hours of setting all this up. Openbox on Ubuntu is just what I wanted, and most of the work has already been done!

First impression on booting up is very smooth, elegant and professional, right from the splash screen. However, although the desktop looked cool, I definitely wanted icons, and found the theme, Openbox and GTK, too dark. Installing xfdesktop got me all the files in ~/Desktop back in view, and obconf/lxappearance for lighter themes... but... somehow nothing seemed quite right, and after a week or so of messing about I tried the default #! theme again, and this time it clicked. Simple, elegant, easy on the eyes, and all apps seemed to follow along nicely, down to the contrasting white-on-black popups. For me all it needed was a little touch of colour, so switch the titlebars from "text only" to "icons only", add ADcomp's ADeskBar, use a dark wallpaper, and turn on the compositiing for a bit of drop shadow. Result: probably the nicest-looking computer I've had the pleasure of using so far! Just beautiful. smile

(I think I'll keep my desktop icons a bit longer though.)

Other suggestions? I haven't been using #! all that long, and we all have our favourite apps, so my particular preferences can be left for another time. The menu is full of handy links, but the lack of an automatically updated application list might be a weak point. marchobmenu might be a candidate for inclusion in a future #!?

Anyway, thanks again!

ADesk Menu is also a handy solution. http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … r-systray/

er.. if you insist, but it's just the default theme basically.
A couple of windows open:

Just the desktop (actually, the ADeskBar is usually hidden):

Note all the file icons splattered about. It would look much nicer without them, but I still haven't figured out a way to organise my work otherwise. ("organise"??  Real life desktop is just the same...)

Oh yes... one small request re the #! theme: the right hand edge of a window is sometimes very hard to grab to resize sideways. Another pixel in the "active zone" or whatever it's called might be nice. Of course you can always go down to the bottom right hand corner, but I'm so lazy...

Sure, but again, I don't think I've changed it much from the defaults.

ADeskMenu is very nice - looks beautiful and works perfectly - but I found it a bit heavy on memory; I've only got 500MB. Actually I don't really use the global apps menu all that often - everyday stuff gets a launcher or keyboard shortcut - but I want everything to be there if needed, so a lightweight "applications" submenu for the openbox menu seems just right.
