Topic: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

So I've been wondering, is there a tool to control cpu frequency in statler? 90% of the time I'm on powersave mode while on my cruncheee.
I'd love to know about some similar tool, since it not only saves the battery but also makes my eee much more quiet...
thanks in advance!

have no idea if it is in #! -alpha but in eeebuntu 4.0 beta, which is also based on Debian there is an app called Jupiter (or similar) that can switch your netbook to powersave etc (just like eee-control on ubuntu).

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

I totally forgot about Jupiter from eeebuntu! I'll check whether it's possible to install it on statler somehow.
Dzięki wink

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

There is a great app called eee-tray.

Website: http://www.statux.org/content?page=cata … catagory=1

Follow the EEE PC ACPI Tray Icon link (mouse over the name) and follow the instructions for adding repo and pub key. Works great.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Sorry to bump the topic from page two, but here goes:
I installed eeepc-tray and jupiter from the repos toor58 suggested, everything installed "successfully", but after typing the commands terminal returns with:
bash: command not found.
Any help will be much appreciated!

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Try using the command :  eeepc-tray.exe

When in doubt go to your /usr/bin and locate the app. The way it is listed will usually work to call it.

Only draw back with this app and the CLI is that when you close terminal, you will close app. My suggestion is that you make a startup entry for it using the above command. should work.

Hope this helps.

I know, but I wanted to see what was wrong.

I had to install gtk-sharp library, after that both eeepctray.exe and jupiter.exe worked. The only issue seems to be mono, which for some reason creeps up from time to time and eats up 100% cpu, but is's easy to kill without crashing the eee-tray O_o. What's more important, I've gained a quiet computer and about an hour of battery life big_smile Thanks!

awg,

Sorry to bother you, but...  could you give some more details about how did you install the whole thing? I was trying last night, and I kept getting some kind of package errors...  I managed to add the repos, and to get the key.  I then updated sources in synaptic and got to see the apps/ packages to be installed in the list.  I then I selected eeepc-acpi-utilities & eeepc-tray and clicked 'Apply', and somehow it went wrong (if I remember properly -I am away from my machine now- it gives me an error when installing/ depackaging eeepc-acpi-utilities...)

Would be nice to get that extra-hour smile

Thanx in advance!

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Hm, I did have some problems installing at first, but the second  attempt to install was successful.
Anyway,  tips from pvsage in this thread: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … -netbooks/ +powertop should give you similar powersavings with (at the moment) much less hassle.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Actually, eee-tray and jupiter were written by the same person - and I would assume that Jupiter supercedes eee-tray.  http://www.fewt.com/2010/02/meet-jupiter.html is the applicable release announcement.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

^ We'll have to see about that, as I'm currently testing the battery performance of the various power governors.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

I had great success on my eeepc 1000HE with default #! and fewt's eeetray, or whatever it was called (from statux.org).  It currently works with 9.10 UNR (Gnome, btw), but I'm very interested to see how well Jupiter works with Statler.

I'm just too lazy to take the plunge myself:P :-p.

Although I've been looking for an excuse to get off of UNR - but with eeebuntu, #!, and Jolicloud (just for kicks) all in various testing stages ...

Personally, I just trust Fewt's work since he also has a 1000HE.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

I've always been more of a eee-control fan when using cruncheee, but Jupiter did work beautifully on eeebuntu 4 beta. It also did its job in statler, but for some reason it required a bunch of packages- a total of +/- 70MB roll That plus problems with the packages associated with Jupiter and eee-tray(apart form the gui they seemed identical indeed) caused me to try out cli-stuff. So far estimated battery life is the same as when using eee-tray.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

...err, yeah.  I see that Jupiter requires Mono?

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Yep. Although to be honest I'm not even sure anymore whether it was jupiter directly, or the gtk-sharp libraries that required mono.  And gtk-sharp wasn't even listed as a dependency when installing jupiter, but neither J. nor eee-tray would work without it.

In short, I'm confused.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

The xfce4-governor-plugin doesn't need Mono, so if you're using Statler XFCE you should be laughing.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

I'm on openbox. But I'm still laughing...well, *grumblegrumblegruble*, mostly big_smile

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

I don't think xfce4-panel has many dependencies.  You could have a small instance of it running in a corner for whatever xfce4-*-plugins you need.  That's what I do in 9.04 anyway.

Re: [SOLVED] eee-control like cpu control?

Here's a slightly inflammatory post referring possible alternatives to Mono+Jupiter.  It wasn't well received by the eeebuntu folk (and perhaps rightfully so), but its another possibility for acpi controls?

http://forums.eeebuntu.org/viewtopic.ph … piter+mono

Summary:  apt-get install acpi + eeepc-acpi-generic functions (manually installed) from Arch User Repos.
