Re: [Resolved] No Network Connections on 8.10.02 Inspiron Notebook

Excellent work! This was the only (albeit large) issue I was having with .02 on my old Inspiron 1100. Any chance you could update the OP with the fix information to make it easier for visitors to repair their installs?

Re: [Resolved] No Network Connections on 8.10.02 Inspiron Notebook

Hi Guys n Gals.  Am still without wireless on my crappy tiny laptop.  I've followed the threads and still don't have any joy. Am using .02, have installed wicd (mainly cos the icon in the systray looks cool - network manager didn't work anyway). I even tried to remove backports but system claimed they weren't installed! Very odd, that! Only when my eth0 is plugged in can wicd even see a wireless signal, tho it just won't connect with or without security.  Mebbe my wireless card is dead...

Hail #!

Bane, if you have .02, you should have backports (unless something changed).  You could open the Package Manager and search for 'linux-backports' to be sure.

Do you know what your wireless card make/model is?  Are you using restricted drivers, or are any available through the Restricted Device Manager under 'System?'

Re: [Resolved] No Network Connections on 8.10.02 Inspiron Notebook

Quick question for you all.   I am having this same problem (trying to
connect with wpa2 just asks for the key over and over) and I am
not sure I can implement this solution.  If I am reading this right, the
backports module that I need to remove is what makes my wifi
card work in the first place, since I have an atheros 928x.  Is this
true?  If so, does anyone know of a solution that will work for me?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you! The simple solution of removing those two backport packages and rebooting worked like a charm. I registered on the forums just to thank you!

Me too, I even struggled with my  IBM T42 and the ipw2200 with no WPA access.

Now its time to solve the missing "Super" key on the keyboard ;-)

Thank you so much for this. After a frustrating afternoon getting wpa up on my laptop with ipw2200, this thread saved the day.

I missed this thread when it originally started. It's a great example of what this community is about smile

How neat! After having run #! on a Fujitsu Siemens for a week or so, I decided to install it on my Dell Inspiron 6000 as well. And thanks to this thread, I now have networking! Yay! big_smile
