Topic: Statler XFCE Alfa - mount tool

I'm trying Statler XFCE and enjoying it a lot.
However, i always had an issue with the XFCE desktop: it doesn't offer a simple way for mounting partitions.
Unmounted partitions don't ever appear in thunar, so you are not even aware of them.
My suggestion is adding a simple mount tool to the distro, something like what you can find in Puppy or DSL. It would increase usability a lot.
Apart from that, which is basically a vanilla XFCE desktop issue, i'm enjoying Statler XFCE Alfa a lot.
Great move to debian!

Hello fernbap, thank you for your feedback and welcome to the forums! smile

Do you have any recommendations for which tool to use for mounting?

Re: Statler XFCE Alfa - mount tool

I've had some success using thunar in conjunction with thunar-volman, and then adding the latter to my autostart.sh script so that it enables thunar volume management upon login.  Let me know if this sounds like what you're looking for and I'll point you to the relevant post.

Re: Statler XFCE Alfa - mount tool

If you use the xfce4-panel, you can try the xfce4-mount-plugin.

And if you want to mount internal partitions at boot time, try adding the drives to your fstab with the pysdm tool:

@corenominal
Thanks. I don't have any specific suggestion, as i am not familiar with Xfce. However, i believe that a simple mount tool such as the one included on Puppy would be a good addition to the distro.
@extraspecialbitter
I checked. thunar-volman is installed and thunar volume management is checked. Perhaps there is some tweak that is needed to make it work...

it would be great if Statler offered that ability out of the box, since this is an issue with most Xfce distros.
Statler is almost perfect for its purpose: start with a Debian basic install where everything works out of the box, multimedia support is included, and build from there.
Most people shy away from Debian because they are not able to configure it in order to make everything work. With Statler, all that work is done.
I think many people will welcome a debian based Crunchbang.
