Topic: PCmanFM 0.9.3

Perhaps the inclusion of the brand new PCmanFM 0.9.3. It now has a trash bin, so there's no need to switch to Thunar for one.

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

Thank you for the update, I am going to check this out. smile

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

No problem. I tried to install it on my Arch Linux partition, but couldn't quite get it to compile. I wasn't trying very hard though.

Isn't it still beta though?

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

Thanks for the headup Matt.

I've just installed it from here ( Jaunty .deb files ):
https://launchpad.net/~sd-imi/+archive/ … /+packages
You need libmenu-cache1 and libfm1 too, from the same page, but this is a private repository with no guarantees of course smile

Certainly seems fast, and it connects up with my existing trash bin (used by Thunar) OK.
It's still a beta though, and not everything works. (eg right-click "properties")
Launch it with 'pcmanfm2', check 'pcmanfm2 --help' for options.

It's also in some Lubuntu-repo: http://ppa.launchpad.net/lubuntu-desktop/ppa/ubuntu lucid main

EDIT: This is lucid-only: There is a bug with rightclick - menu not working correctly (and also another doublecklicking bug), which seems to depend on the
gtk2+ -update to version 2.20 - at least a post from an arch-forum-member suggests this. Uncommenting "Open files with single click" in "preferences" should work around these bugs...

The right-click "properties" option doesn't work for me, with or without the "single click" option enabled. The "rename" box comes up OK.

Sorry, i posted before really testing on my main system - which is still madbox 9.10. On madbox, i get the same behaviour like you. The bug i mentioned above, only affects all Ubuntu-Lucids i tried so far. In Lucid, the version of gtk2+ is 2.20. And this breaks pcmanfm2's functionality even more, than just the "no-properties"-bug. hmm

Yes. And I can see why. I installed it ok, I started it ok, it crashed while browsing & now I can't open it again. S#!t.

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

This is entirely a no-no by all forum standards, but i have to get it off my chest; what is it with us Linux guys that we always have to replace the 'defaults' with something else. It is on this very forum that when pcmanfm was the default, we were arguing about how Thunar was so configurable, convenient, blah, blah, etc....

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

^ well, to be honest, I prefer Thunar myself, but it's just possible the new pcmanfm might turn out to be a better choice for some people in some situations... smile

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

@mzsade - People wanted Thunar to replace PCManFM 0.5x since it friendly with external drives among other reasons. However the new PCManFM is a rewrite and may not have the same problems as the previous version.

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

Okay then, when on 9.04 i had asked how to include the "paste filename" option in the context menu and was told that this could only be done on Thunar, http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … ext-menu/. I still haven't managed to figure out how. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: PCmanFM 0.9.3

Look here:

http://thunar.xfce.org/pwiki/documentat … om_actions

Just the custom action "Saving the selected file/folder's pathname to the clipboard" however change "%f" to "%n" if you only want the filename.
