Topic: GMA 500 on Statler

Trying to make Statler run on this machine with VIA VT6656 wireless and Intel GMA 500 display. I think I can get the wireless going, thanks to this:

Anyone had any luck with GMA 500?

http://blogs.koolwal.net/2009/11/05/how … on-debian/ has some answer for you, but it requires a lot of work.
Your Poulsbo graphic driver is a real nightmare, as you probably  know by now; and it even isn't supported in Lucid!

Re: GMA 500 on Statler

I also have "Pouslbo" on my Netbook ... For the moment, I know only one stable solution : Jolicloud !

http://www.jolicloud.com/product/specifications

Graphic Chipset

    * Intel 945GSE with video chipset GMA 950
    * Intel US15W with video chipset GMA 500
    * Intel GMA 3150
    * Nvidia ION chipset
    * Legacy ATI, Nvidia chipsets

It's working good and fast on my EeePC. If you have another simple solution to make it running on Debian or on the future Ubuntu, I will be happy to smile

Thanks, very complicated! There are some debs at the bottom but still seems scary!

I heard the Linux Foundation were working on a solution for this. Have they got anywhere yet?

@ Kookaburra: Writing this from Jolicloud Live. Looks great and all the hardware seems fine - touch screen too - but it takes ages to boot, takes 350MB on idle with 15% processor usage. Opening one page in Firefox - this one - and it's on constant 25%. Doubt I'd get much out of the battery! I'll probably install and do some tests, just to get more data.

Re: GMA 500 on Statler

Contrast with MintXfce at 142MB, without wireless, v high CPU load - been waiting for it to calm down for nearly ten minutes but it's still very high. Oh regarding the touch screen: neither distro - Jolicloud, Mint, Statler - lets me get within 1cm of the edge of the screen.

It boot fast on my netbook (hard install). But  I also have near to 300/400MB on idle (500/600 on use), with 15/20% CPU usage (on 1.33Ghz CPU) ... I think this is due to UNR, to specially to Jolicloud (Gnome / Gnome Netbook Remix = hight RAM conso roll mad).

On my EeePC 1101HA, I have 6 hours of autonomy (in XP, I have not really more ...), so I don't think this is a problem ? smile

Here's the optimistic article:

... dated Nov 02. (No matter how many times I try, I just can't read this to the bottom.)

Re: GMA 500 on Statler

If a solution should be find, it will be "Gallium3D", sure wink
