Topic: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

I recently purchased on O2 Joggler, for those who don't know it's a 7" touchscreen picture frame type device with an Atom CPU, WiFi, 512mb RAM that comes with a flash based linux interface but various groups have got it running Linux flavours including Ubuntu.

I've managed to get 9.04 up and running using the instructions for UNR here.  With a few firefox extensions, a little bit of theme customisation and ADeskBar I've got it working without a keyboard or mouse.  I'm going to use VNC to login and make changes but I want to keep it to so you can use it with your finger.   I might look at Statler but for that I'd have to do a lot more reading up on what exactly the patches for Ubuntu did!

My plan is to use it as a very OTT alarm clock so I'm currently looking for the best solution for alarms. I even had the crazy idea that it might get it's alarms from a google calendar so they could be set using my phone or computer.  Does anyone know of a good lightweight uPnP video player?  I've already got the server up and running for my Xbox but it'd be great to be able to stream videos on my alarm clock!

Does anyone else run CrunchBang on one of these or a device like this?  Any hints or tips?

Here's a photo with early stages of my setup.

Re: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

Wow, that is awesome. I nearly purchased a Joggler when they were reduced to £50, but for some reason I never got around to it. Seeing yours is making me regret not getting one now. neutral I cannot really afford one at the moment, what with moving house and OggCamp coming up, but I will try and grab one off of Ebay in a couple of months. I would love to read more about your Joggler adventures, so please keep us updated! smile

Re: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

Aye, that'd be a wonderful hack you and others are working on. I can't find those Joggler things for a good price here in the US, at least not good for me, hmm, but I wish you the best of luck working on it.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

I now have a Joggler, bobobex gifted one to me. bobobex is ace! smile Once I get a decent working Internet connection, I will download a few distributions and have a play. smile

Re: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

I picked up one of these babies the other day too! I'm astonished they can do them for £50...

Just imagine; Jogglerbang!  *drools*

Please keep us posted on developments, folks - wish I had the skillz to have a go myself...

Re: CrunchBang on O2 Joggler

Hi guys - how did things go with the joggler?

I managed to get a minimal ubuntu install working pretty well on mine, but it just wasn't stable enough and would freeze up after a week or so.  Like FonzCam, I wanted to use the gadget as a snazzy alarm-clock, but unless it's 100% reliable, it's not fit for purpose sad
