Topic: Can someone take over the cruncheee wiki (part of eee wiki)?

I had moved from #! completely, not because I didn't like #!, but because of situations.  I moved my 701 eee to Linux Mint 8 (GNOME) so that I could sync
my Palm Treo (get jpilot working).  I moved of #! 9.04 since I needed to put a new OS to get FF working with ReminderFox.  I had a choice: use #! 9.04 again
or use a later OS (distro hop).  I chose to get a later OS.  I spun around with Linux Mint LXDE 8, Fedora LXDE 12, and wattOS RC1 (LXDE).  They were all
too slow.  I finally ended up with Linux Mint Fluxbox 8.  I guess this dinosaur can't handle a desktop environment.

Anyway, can someone keeps #!-eee page active?  It's at

http://wiki.eeeuser.com/crunchbang.html

and linked in the main wiki page

http://wiki.eeeuser.com (scroll 5/6)

I'll still be around here (and the cruncheee forum [part of eee forum]), but it will be hard to update #! page when neither machine has #!.  And I may be back when
statler is finally released.

Dual BOot? just use the non #! OS when you need to run your Jpilot.

Reboot when you do your other Things.

Dual booting is quite difficult on a 701, as it only has a 4GB SSD (not a 250GB hard drive), which limits a lot what you can install on it; you need a compact and light distro (moreover, the 701 gets warm pretty quickly, which means using a SD card for extra space or other OS is perilous).
Better find a distro that has all the features you need.

And then you threw away XP and discovered life without crappy OS was possible and enjoyable ....

No, I added Windows XP to my linux partition so I could use GPS-navigation (there was no connection between bluetooth GPS and eeepc under linux).

I don't mind using windows or mac os x - I use them when I need them, a side other open source OSs - my point was that 4GB is more then enough to have few operating systems on (dual boot) + you can always install an OS (just for fun&tests) on SD-card or usb-stick.
That is how I use linux these days - on usb-stick - to keep in touch with community (#! and Salix) &OS.

I never had XP (heaven forbids I buy window machines).  It had lightweight xandros which I quickly wiped with PCLinuxOS, MiniMe, Mepis, OpenGeu, cruncheee, and then,
Linux Mint GNOME.  I always buy linux-preinstall machines, then if I change distros, there are linux  drivers floating around the internet if I have problems.

As mentioned earlier, dual-boot is not an option on a 4G machine.

#!  9.10 was acting up (not necessarily the OS - don't know, but FF & ReminderFox extension and some other programs) on the desktop, so bye bye.

Again, it would be great if someone else took over.

Sheng-Chieh,

If I can manage to fix my wired internet problem on CrunchBang Statler, I might offer to take a shot at the Wiki.

Feel free to PM me about this.

Great!

Btw, I tried to get all the links to the #! wiki and keeps the #! eee wiki for specific eee problems.  So stuffs dealing with eee-control and other eee applets would be
included.  Also there is a good eee post in #! tips and tricks sub-forum (for 1005HA), but alot tricks work for other eee models.  I just haven't done for 701 because
i didn't have cruncheee on my eee laptop during the past year (just #! on the desktop).

Also, if you need to reach me (I probably will be here every now and then watching statler, but not 3-6 times a week), email me at
shengchieh [at_symbol] linuxmail [period] org   or PM me at the eee forum (http://forum.eeeuser.com/).
