Topic: What happened to terminator

Not a biggie - but yesterday dist-upgrade added a vertical scroll to terminator - so I think #! defaults been over written. Anyways - I now see a red "ribbon" , with a small button that informs me of the following choiches:

New group
Broadcast off
Broadcast all
Broadcast group
Split to this group
autoclean group
insert terminal number
insert padded terminal number

A quick google tells me this has something to do with executing the same command in several terminal at the same time? I have no idea why this would be usefull - and in general dont get it. That most likely means that I dont need to get it. But still: For my information: What is this broadcast etc. stuff?

Cheers
A

Re: What happened to terminator

In the new version version of Terminator, you don't have to make yourself the file name "config" in ~/.config/terminator, you can directly make config by "right clik" -> "edit profil", with persistant settings. Really more simple !

I don't know what is the new button you see, I have disable this in the options ...

Re: What happened to terminator

@achristoffersen:  That "ribbon" is the titlebar; if you right-click on Terminator and choose Preferences, you can change the titlebar colors to better match your GTK theme.

If you go to the Profiles >> General tab within that window, you can untick the checkbox for "Show titlebar".  A thin strip will still be visible, but if you change the colors it will be less in-your-face.

As for the broadcast options, this applies to split screens.  If, for example, you split the screen three ways, you can have terminal sessions opened to three different directories and run the same command in all three directories.  This can be handy if e.g. you need to backup to multiple targets or from multiple sources but want to write a script to handle it.  (This was available in earlier versions of Terminator as well, but it was in a submenu from the right-click.)

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Thanks pvsage !

That  clears it up :-)

Re: What happened to terminator

It still kinda sucks for me. I like the split screen feature etc, and would probably like to use them. But i hate having the title bar, even with more appealing colours (anyone figured out how to change the red/blue/white squares in the corner to some other colour?)

Hm.... no, I like it's features. Even this particular one, I just wish it could be #!'ified.

They're png files located in:  /usr/share/icons/hicolor/16x16/actions

So you could probably clone them and change the colors, then swap 'em on out.

Re: What happened to terminator

at least add an option to hide the ugly thing. having one pixel line up the top is not really hiding it.

Re: What happened to terminator

Good news smile I've been using the 0.93 terminator deb from the Ubuntu ppa. It will be nice to replace it with the Debian package smile
