A place to share your Statler Post install scripts. Some of us have also talked about creating a GUI app that would do a similar job to these scripts but with more options. Here's hoping we may see one in the future.

I like to keep my #! as slim n powerfull as possible. I dont use the scripts, actually, but at least they tell me basic n important apps to support my office/campuss works.
Thanks for jmbarnes for info on mendeleydesktop. Now, i can significantly decrease my dependency on my slim n fast windows xp (I use endnote in xp)

OOT. im still looking best linux apps for statistic (SPSS) and english dictionary. Then i can format all my hardisk for #!.

I think the title may have been misleading in this thread. By post install apps I meant apps developed to bulk install other apps and configs. Like the scripts do but with a gui and more options/choices.

I've split the R-project recommendation that was here into it's own thread. Title of thread and first post changed to make this clearer smile

Hey Omns, good idea. On the topic of a GUI, I do plan to do some work on that shortly.
I was unexpectedly busy for the past few weeks (I was hired to develop a website!), and I am just finishing that job... hopefully when that is done (perhaps a week), I'll be able to focus on this project.
I'm also snaking some proper ethernet cable to my computer (via air ducts lol), so i don't need to deal with the wireless issues i have with statler occasionally.
Anyways, good luck in anything you attempt. Perhaps we could have a thread for people to request programs they'd like installed?
Certainly once we have some GUI work done, we should have a separate thread for that. I may make one once i've got a solid alpha or proof of concept.

I tried a minimal ubuntu installation some time ago.... this script helped me a lot (i didn't run the script, but looked into the code to see what i should install).
