Topic: Games from wolfire

If you want to show some support for developers making good native linux games there's a great deal here http://www.wolfire.com/humble . Pay what you want for five games, I bought world of goo before but haven't had a chance to play the other ones yet....I'll tell you how they are after my plane ride tomorrow(good timing for some new games)

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

Nice to see commercial games for linux.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Re: Games from wolfire

They added a sixth game, Samorost2: http://www.amanita-design.net/samorost-2/

If you like Penumbra: Overture, the three game collection (Overture, Black Plague, and Requiem) is an extra $5 using the bundle code.  And you can pre-order the August sequel (Amnesia: The Dark Descent) for $10.  I think that might all end in two days (May 11).

So if you go $15 + donation, you can get nine pretty good cross-platform games.

Re: Games from wolfire

How do they perform on netbooks?

Update:

Humble update: open source extension (5/11/10)

The Humble Indie Bundle experiment has been a massive success beyond our craziest expectations. So far, in just over 7 days, 116,978 generous contributors have put down an incredible $1,062,283. Of this, contributors chose to allocate 30.96% to charity: $328,848 for the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Child's Play Charity. I have made a page for the full breakdown including credit card fees in a JSON format here (json).

Now it's our turn to give back. As of 5/11/10, Aquaria, Gish, Lugaru HD, and Penumbra Overture pledge to go open source. We are preparing the sources right now and will be releasing them ASAP. We spent last night preparing Lugaru and it is available now. The code is still a little rough (no Visual Studio project yet, for instance) but hopefully with the help of the community we can rapidly make it more accessible to everyone.

Note, the games will be "free as in 'free speech', not as in 'free beer'": see each license for the full, finalized details as they come out very hopefully this week -- stay tuned. It is the underlying code that will be made available to everyone.

Feel free to continue donating to charity, to the developers, or any combination thereof below. We will still be distributing humble bundles to anyone who contributes.

Re: Games from wolfire

i already bought penumbra and world of goo.  but, i still gave them $50 to support the developers who are supporting linux.  grabbed the penumbra bonus for $5 as well.

its interesting to see the donation breakdown.  people always say linux users want everything for free.  and we donated more!

maybe gaming on linux is starting to take a turn.  for instance, Steam was just officially released for Linux!

Re: Games from wolfire

World of Goo (yes, was already available for linux, steam wasn't) and others like the Source engine are coming to Linux, via Steam! After 2 years, it's finally going to happen. Let's expect it to be released in about another 2 years. It's certain however that it's not soon enough..
