Topic: Updated Slater build

Hi Everyone, This is my first post to the forum even though I have been lurking for a while.

I was wondering when there will be a later build of the Slater Alpha? I have installed sucessfully on a few machines but am having trouble with some
Dell Optiplex GX110's. I have tried everything I can think of but system fails to boot in live mode & even though text install seems to work I end up with an unbootable system.

I have tried Squeeze Alpha1 installer cd and that works well, however I would prefer to install #!. Is it possible for someone to build a slater iso with a later version of squeeze as a base (or provide instructions so I can give it a go myself).

I have 12 identical computers for a club that I would like to install Slater on.

I am loving #! on my own computer (using xfce install)

thanks, Bluejay

Re: Updated Slater build

Welcome to the forums, Bluejay!

First things first, let's get one thing straight... This is Slater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_Slater

And this is Statler: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statler_and_Waldorf lol

OK, now that we got that straight, the simple answer to your question is, CrunchBang is a one-man project with no timetable. The next release is ready when Corenomial says it is. smile

However, I think your actual question is "How do I install CrunchBang on a Dell Optiplex?" To answer that question, it would be helpful if you tell us the hardware specs of the machine in question and what you've tried so far, maybe someone with similar hardware has a fix they can share. I also recommend using the Search feature at the top of the screen, as there are several existing threads on the Dell Optiplex (though, possibly, some of them refer to the stable CrunchBang release, not the current Alpha... have you tried the stable release (9.04) yet?).

Good luck and welcome!

Re: Updated Slater build

oops! My first post and I have already offended the developer. ( sorry Corenomial)

I didn't realize that this was a one-man project. I am very impressed with this distro and just assumed that it was a larger project.

The stable release works fine but I would prefer to stick to Statler and am not ready to give up yet. I will post more detail when I can try a reinstall and get the exact error messages.

thanks

No offence taken. smile

I have just moved house and I am waiting on a new internet connection, before I continue with Statler's development. I agree that it would be good to get a new build out soon and I will try to crack on with it as soon as I can. smile

Hahaha, the first post I quoted him I started with: Hi Corenormal

Until I saw the error of my ways before submitting thank God!

I'm sure corenominal wouldn't have taken offence!

And to think, for a one man show it's a wonder it isn't coreburnedout.
