Topic: Midori and Privoxy

I started using Midori 0.2.6 recently, and would like to use it in conjunction with Privoxy.

The Privoxy instructions are to set your browser proxy settings to 127.0.0.1, port 8118

But Midori only has space to enter a hostname under http proxy. I know next to nothing about networks and Midori support/help seems to be extremely limited besides a couple mentions on the Arch forums.

I have tried suggested use of libsoup:

export HTTP_PROXY=127.0.0.1:8118

and recommended method for starting privoxy in Debian:

sudo /etc/init.d/privoxy start

But Midori always returns an error 404 when I try to browse. I don't know what hostname I am supposed to enter. I return to browsing by selecting 'no proxy server', but I would like to be able to use this proxy.

Any help/suggestions?

Thank you.

Re: Midori and Privoxy

Will adding it like this all together under the name work?

127.0.0.1:8118

Re: Midori and Privoxy

It didn't. Unfortunately.

I really love Midori, but I've never seen a more useless network settings screen in my life.

Re: Midori and Privoxy

Well, poo... sad

Found this on the Arch forums: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 20#p541220

Where it should be able to be set it in .bashrc (or .bash_profile but that might not work anymore from what I read elsewhere)

But that seems a little much since that affects more than just Midori.

Re: Midori and Privoxy

I might have to take a look at that tonight. I didn't want to have to play with .bashrc though, so if anyone knows a way around it, would be awesome.

Maybe there should be a Midori help thread. The flashblock script I'm using stopped working when I upgraded to 0.2.6. This day just isn't working out for me.

Re: Midori and Privoxy

I just went to 2.6 (and my flashblock broke too neutral, and also custom css sad ). But it's fixable, yay!! big_smile

Try side panel -> extensions -> User addons 0.1
It crashed on me right when I enabled it, but it works fine on restart.

A Midori thread would be cool!

Re: Midori and Privoxy

Since Linux is case-sensitive, have you tried using http_proxy instead?

Also you can try using gconf-editor to change your proxy settings and then set Midori's proxy setting to Automatic.

BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.

Re: Midori and Privoxy

@chillicampari: thanks for the tip, it's nice to block flash again.

@anonymous: I have tried being case sensitive, didn't help. I've not used gconf-editor before, but I will take a look at it later on.

I'll probably consider just leaving it. I've only been using Privoxy for about 6 months anyway, so it's no big loss I suppose.
