Maybe corenominal could add a XCFE forum ?
We have an Openbox Talk forum, so I guess it is only fair to have an Xfce Talk forum too. I will run it by the forum moderators to see what they think. Thank you for the suggestion. ![]()
Yay! Thanks.
Besides, the official Xfce Forums apparently aren't approving any new members (my multiple attempts to register have been ignored for so long I just gave up, and others on UF have had the same experience) and they're practically lifeless anyway. Perhaps because they don't let people join, lol.:)

I tried to join the Xfce Forum for months.
I applied ... then, re-applied.
Sent emails to the moderators ... they did reply, and told me they were "looking into it"
I was persistent and they finally allowed me to join ... after more than 4 months of trying.
I have found that subscribing to the Xfce Mailinglist gets me better results, replies and information.
The forums do work rather slowly ... as not many people respond, except for a Mod or two.
I still don't know what the issue is about not letting new people into the Xfce Forums members list?
I know that the Xfce DE has a small group of Devs ... and like many other Linux groups, is slow in developing new projects because of this.
Recently ... they have had to push the release date for Xfce 4.8 back a few months. Xfce version 4.8 will NOT be included in Debian Squeeze when it goes 'stable'

Thanks for the links vrkalak. An Xfce forum is an excellent idea!

So, I ran this idea past the forum moderators and it has been decided that having separate Openbox and Xfce forums might be classed as overkill. So, the "Openbox Talk" forum has been renamed to "WM/DE Talk". Hopefully this will provide more scope for discussing not just Openbox and Xfce, but other window managers and desktop environments too. ![]()
That's awesome, thanks guys!
I had been planning to ask here if anyone had succeeded in joining the Xfce forums. ![]()
Same experience of months wait, unanswered emails...
It's a pity, because a lot of the Xfce documentation is years out of date and the forums would have been a chance to find out if something is a bug, a feature or just something that changed.
btw thanks for the links, vrkalak - I've just subscribed to the users mailing list.

Can I make a suggestion, I can't remember if these forums allow prefixes in thread titles, but something like that would be good for the WM/DE forums, making it easier to distinguish the threads.
[OB] Thread title
[XFCE] Thread title
[Other] Thread title
Either a little drop down menu when creating the thread, or for people to manually do it, and it will just help keep things clear in the forums and make it easy for someone skimming through for help to find the threads relevant.

Very smart idea.!!

It has to be added manually, so lets hope people catch onto the idea.
Some day, a little enhancement of the forum search facility would also be nice: the ability to search only the titles not the whole post.
^ Maybe we need a newer version of PunBB or maybe Philip disabled that feature? The PunBB forums does let you search only in the topic title so it is possible.

I have not disabled that feature, so I guess it could be something included in a later release. I have made several modifications to this instance of PunBB and so upgrading it will not be as simple as I would like; however, I will look into it. ![]()
Meanwhile, searches on topic titles can be performed in Google like so: "site:crunchbanglinux.org/forums/ intitle:openbox theme"

Ah yes - the thread title goes into the page title! Thanks for that reminder. ![]()
^ searching for intitle:openbox theme with the forums custom google search would also have the same result ![]()
Interesting idea.
I put what I use in my signature and I'm convinced some people do not read signatures.

I've been a member of the Xfce forums for maybe a year or so, but I never posted because the boards moved too slowly, and I found better help on UbuntuForums or on Debian Forums when they weren't calling me a noob.

True. The saving grace for me was that, invariably, I didn't have any problems with xfce. I remember installing it on the default Xandros
that came with the original eeepc and having people tell me it couldn't be done. Good thing that told me that after the fact or I'd never tried. ![]()

Well you know what they say about experts
an EX is a has been and a (S)PERT is a drip under pressure.

And for you movie fans: ID4
Ex Minister of Defence: "He can't do that!"
Response: "Well, he just did!"
Someone tells me I can't do something and it gives me that much more juice to try!

I certainly cannot believe that.
Seriously, that's just the way the things are around there, no matter if you're newbie or not.

That is gratifying to know -- it really is.
So. Who's going to make the first Xfce post in our new forum section? ![]()

Pick me, pick me. Well, while not a true Xfce post it is a welcome to #! post for Xfcer'ers.
It seems crazy, corenominal said a while back that the OpenBox thread had been renamed, WM/DE, and NO ONE went and started posting Xfce stuff, but this thread continues. ![]()
