Topic: Just who the heck is this "anonymous" guy anyway?

Like the subject says:

Just who the heck is this "anonymous" guy anyway?

Near as I can figure 'he' is an old Cray computer someplace with things like the Google database, the wikipedia, along with the man pages of every Linux program going as well some secret key-word list to use on search engines for the 42 things he doesn't know.

That number 42 has nothing to do with Deep Thought's quest to calculate The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.  It is simply a random coincidence---or is it?

Arch?  As in an old one http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/5a/Arch.of.constantine.threequarter.view.arp.jpg/120px-Arch.of.constantine.threequarter.view.arp.jpg or perhaps one a bit newer http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d9/Wembley_Stadium_closeup.jpg/120px-Wembley_Stadium_closeup.jpg maybe?

Surely you would not be referring to that Linux distribution http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:YcQKaMtMQHDhkM:http://www.shoplinuxonline.com/images/Archlinux.jpg on the #! CrunchBang forums!
Because if that is what you call an ordinary Arch user what am I doing here?

Sacrilege!!  Just the thought!

Um okay. Anonymous is a member of the forums like you and me. He is a forum moderator. His name is (check his deviantart site). He is very helpful to people of all skill levels. He uses Arch which only enhances the knowledge he brings to the forums. I myself use a couple of distros. My onlycrunchbang install at the moment is a virtual one. Using other distros is a healthy practise and helps make this community the great place it is. When we had no sign of a new release the community stayed as vibrant as ever because we used and experimented with different os's. This to me is what our community is really all about.

All that I knew.  I was hoping you'd pick up on that and carry on with the idea of the first few posts.
However like charlie01 said, he is very fast, he helps everyone and as you said at every level...

I know he isn't a Cray (old or new), just a very knowledgeable person and without a doubt one of the most valuable "assets", no disrespect meant, that the #! forum has.

Sometimes I get the feeling he is supernatural with his speed and his knowledge.  Reminds me of a 14 year old kid that people in two cities contacted when they had a problem with DOS, BAT files and or Wildcat BBS software.  His knowledge was way beyong that of most people and helped everyone, it didn't matter who they were.  He'd be pushing 35 now, blind, and has his own company - computer related with "speech" software.

So for me anonymous is some sort of supernatural kind of guy, always there, always helpful and I guess this was my way of letting him know he is appreciated.

And you're close too!

Re: Just who the heck is this "anonymous" guy anyway?

Oh, I appreciate him more than I can say.  I like how he has this way of steering you on to know more than you thought you knew, or needed to know on any given subject.  Tactful.  That's the word I was looking for.  [heh.  heh.  and I got that word in before he did  -- this time]  tongue

Re: Just who the heck is this "anonymous" guy anyway?

I'd say he's an anonymous user here who likes Arch as well as Crunchbang big_smile

That's another key feature of this guy - tactful.

I know more because there are times is gently shove, pushes or kicks me in the right direction.  And I much prefer that to a direct answer.

But in all honesty a direct answer at time is a relief as well.  big_smile

key feature?  Maybe he is a Cray and his blog is a ruse!

This is how support concerning linux (or FOSS at all) should be: Fill the knowledge gaps, so the problem can be solved by developing an idea, instead of simply following guides. It's the only way you can make sure the respektive seeker of answers will not ask the same type of questions over and over again.

It's what I like.  Although at times I must admit, if it's a pressing problem, I want it on a platter.  And that's the best time NOT to get it on a platter.  smile

I agree.  Even though the humorous side of what I was doing got washed away with the reality of things I cannot deny the truth and that wasn't what I was trying to do.  I was hoping people would play along.

Time to go back into my cave now and paint on the walls.

Re: Just who the heck is this "anonymous" guy anyway?

I'll give a big up to Anonymous!

Always there, always helpful and always polite. He's always one of the first, if not the first to reply to posts.

During my Arch adventures, after Googling an issue, I've ran across his posts in the Arch forums and those old posts have helped me a lot also.

Dude has the market cornered on the brand name of "Anonymous". If I see that name and that Anime Cat I know I'm in good hands.................

Actually, I've become quite stayed in my distro habits. I mainly just use pure Debian and keep up to date with 2 other slack based distros that interest me (Zenwalk and Salix OS). If the Salix devs hadn't split from Zenwalk I'd only keep tabs on one of them. Neither of these I use on any sort ofpermanent basis and I now only look at the main releases. Most of my time at work and play is just spent with Debian big_smile

NTF: I have tried a few distros in my time.  #! Statler is my seventh and as far as I am concerned last!  Tomorrow is another day.
