Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

Well as of 12/01 I became 62. So, I dragged my carcass over to this thread to claim my OHCBG membership.

I like the list except I can remember gas at 19 cents a gallon, Sgt. Bilko, Howdy Doody, The Lone Ranger, and I was a fan of the Kingston Trio.

Yep, remember and viewed them all... but I wasn't married at the time.. heh heh..
Here is one for you Gramps.. with the passing this week of (rest his soul) Harry Morgan, Does anyone remember the
50 series he co-starred in "December Bride"?

Nooooooooooo ... sad
December Bride doesn't ring a bell ... but then I think, I probably watched it ... I can't remember ... it's an age thing I guess.

I was more of a Jackie Gleason / Art Carney fan - "The Honeymooners" - now that combo was good!  I remember liking Ed more than Jackie!  But don't tell anyone.

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

Sunday nights, in our house, was a huge TV night (B&W) . . . Lawrence Welk, Bonanza and Ed Sullivan.  lol

Both Jackie Gleason and Art Carney were good, in the Honeymooners -- my vote goes to the Jackie Gleason Variety Hour.

I remember growing up in Houston, early 1950's, and someone down the street got the first TV on the block!  Used to be dinner parties with snacks and sodas for the kids.  I distinctly remember anxiously waiting to see the Red Skeleton Show but after waiting there were no skeletons -- just a funny old man who dressed up like a clown, oftentimes a very sad clown.  hmm

I was born in the '50s, a month after Sputnik, and grew up in the '60s. I have six years to go before I can join the club, though I remember most of what was listed above.

Icafiero..
Join in but don't rush ahead to your 60's  wink

Frankly, though I remember a lot from the 50's. I really feel that I too grew up in the 60's as I was 10 in 1960.

Thank you, vrkalak -- I don't mind aging so much, but I do mind . . . uh, I forgot. :-)

Bear in mind, kids, that old age and treachery will always win out over youth and skill. Always.

I second that motion ... an Honorary Old-Timer!
However if he leaves #! before he's 60 - he's OUT!  hahahahaha
If we remember that is, and V if you keep forgetting - trust me, you're in!

Don't know buy Kelso's been pissing and moaning in the local paper as long as I can remember.  I usually pay him no mind.  hmm

"Slats" are what you sit on.

Really, I didn't think they'd be that big.  lol

Are you certain?

@Blackbird:  Pretty sure.  The horizontal timbers of a bench are sometimes referred to as slats, so the transitive property says "in the slats" could easily refer to one's backside.  (Isn't algebra fun? tongue )  Seems the original usage referred to the 2th/3rd definition in your list above, however.

I agree with dubois - thanks for the great link.

I'd go for the "ribs", preferably with a nice spacey BBQ sauce.  lol

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

Can you believe that it is 2012 already?

Anyone who was BORN in the 50's - 60's - 70's ...We are the last generation who played in the street. Drank water from the garden hose.  We invented Fast-Food, Blue Jeans and t-shirts. We are the 1st who played video games & the last to record songs off the radio on a cassette tape. We walked over a mile with no worries on being taken ... Learned how to program the VCR before anyone else ... Played from Atari to Nintendo ... We are the generation of Tom and Jerry, LooneyToons & Captain Kangaroo ... We traveled in cars w/out seat belts or air-bags and lived without cell phones. We did not have flat screens, surround-sound, iPods, Facebook, Twitter, computers & the Internet...But nevertheless we had a GREAT time

Me too!  Hind-sight!

Add the 40's to that too, though "just" - and we drank from streams, and swam in any lake, went camping in tents, collecting fire wood in the woods to cook with and roast marshmallows.  We knew to dig a pit, line it with rocks and keep a water and/or sand bucket close by for fire control.  Took off on our bikes in the morning and came home at dusk for dinner, dirty, happy and felt all the better for it!

And I would not change my non-techy youth for ALL the technology of today or any amount of money!

vrkalak - thanks for the trip down memory lane - felt GOOD!

Re: The Official #! Over-the-Hill-CrunchGang Thread

Yes, add the "baby-boomers" (like me) born in the late 40's to that.

I remember cutting wood for the cook stove.  (that old cast iron stove is still in my fathers kitchen)
And pumping water outside to take inside ... we didn't have indoor water when I was small.
Don't forget the "out house"

And I grew up in the city!!  tongue
