While the rewrite of PCManFM/libfm is still in progress, another parts of LXDE requires more attention. So this week I did a rewrite/redesign for LXAppearance. The most notable change is the new cursor theme support.

Finally a GUI for changing cursor themes! And alphabetical sorting of themes seems to be back too.

Since LXAppearance now supports plugins, it’s possible to add new features to it with third party plugins. Today I ported the GUI configuration tool for OpenBox obconf to LXAppearance. Now a plugin for seamless OpenBox integration is available.

Now the new LXAppearance can change some parts of Openbox. Time to kiss obconf goodbye!

is there anything particularly wrong with obconf? i always found it ok to use.

does sound interesting tho, depending on how good the plugin api is, i suppose it will be possible to roll all of #!s config apps into one.

Great, one application less.
I am actually thinking to make a browser based admin panel. (with python or php)
You just type settings in your web browser, enter the root password and you can change the settings of the applications, startup, key bindings, menus, wallpaper...
Advantages : Themeing and programming is way easier, the UI can be a lot more powerful, the user can always customize his admin panel without knowing C++ or gtk, no compiling necessary.
Disadvantages : Google Chrome has a bug when changing gtk themes.

I've been playing with the GIT version of lxappearance2 for a little while. I've been trying to do away with having too many apps in the "signal chain". It does a lot and I really like the way it's heading, but it's still missing a couple of minor things that obconf has, like choosing the number of desktops on start-up. Just some minor nit-picky things really. I'm curious of what other plugins they'll come up with.

It's such a horribly buggy app, the version that comes with CB alpha. It's absolutely the worst piece of software in the whole distro. I'll give this thing a try, missed it before, but I'm not very hopeful.
