Topic: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

I've done a few searches and haven't seen this issue. I have an Eee PC 701 with #! Statler 1 installed and #! pre statler used to mount SD-USB drives but now it rarely does. It's very erratic in mounting, most times I'll get a "drive won't mount" dialog, so I'll reboot and sometimes ... it WILL mount, but NOT always. I can find no repeatable path for this error, it comes and goes, any suggestions?  Oh, I am going to/from a windows machine until I repair my other Linux box and get my network back up, so drives are formatted FAT or FAT32, and I always, always unmount my media on windows because bad things happen otherwise.

Did you add the drives to your fstab?

Re: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

No, I haven't, but reading it reveals: "Removable Drives. These drives should work without an entry in fstab."
And like I said, they DID work in #!, just erratically when I (clean) installed statler.
If what you propose is supposed to be a solution, how can drives mount Sometimes?!?!

Re: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

You should add the drives to fstab anyhow.

Re: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

Ok, I "should" add the drives, but I have 15 flash drives that I use all the time, are you suggesting that I have to add ALL those drives as well?

Windows is FAR BETTER than Linux if THATS the case ...

I don't know if Statler (Debian) uses udev, but you can try using one of these rules:

Re: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

I had similar problems with sporadic automounting an SD card on a a eeePC 900a. The workaround I came up with was quite reliable (on 9.04...can't say for Statler). You can find it at http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/topic … autostart/

Hope it helps.

Re: SD-USB drives erratic mounting

I have the same PC (701 + statler) and it works perfect. So maybe your eee is damaged? Have you tried to boot from a live distro and try it from there?

What does dmesg+lsusb say?
