Topic: [SOLVED ... a silly question] Filesystem's placement on partition

Dear all,

a simple yet very specific ("expert") question: I am making more room for my music partition (fs: ext3) on a 500 GB external drive, using GParted live cd. As everyone knows who has resized and moved larged filesystems e.g. with GParted, the process takes lots of time. Now my question is whether it is necessary to move the ext3 filesystem to the beginning of the partition (i.e. "move filesystem to the left") or could I just leave the vacant space on the "left" side without moving the filesystem to the newly created "empty" space?

You can leave part of the drive upartitioned in my experience; shouldn't be a problem. smile

Erm... thanks! *blush*

Leaving unallocated space is, of course, no problem... but my question was very silly to begin with. On a second thought, GParted does not even let the luser like me leave the filesystem "to the right"; I'm not even sure what made me ask such a question... Let us forget about it.
