I once installed gentoo. It asked me for a sacrifice and would not install itself unless I gave him my neighbor's first born and my best bottle of Whiskey.  -Awebb 2011

Let's see:  GDM = Gnome Display Manager

[face-palm]  I kinda think you need this.

http://linux.die.net/man/1/gdm

Or something else like it . . . (of course, there are alternatives) ... I wouldn't delete it until, you have another app. in place.

You could try using SLiM instead of GDM. Look in the link I gave you in your other topic to see how-to.

Let's do it and don't screw it.

I don't know if oblogout can work without GDM. There are other reboot/shutdown scripts you can use though.

not a facepalm at all.
i never use gdm with linux mint, or ubuntu and debian.
all gdm is is a login manager, but lots of programs support it,such as oblogout..

if i remove  it all i will get is a command line login,w hich i can then type startx and go to openbox from there.

and ill try that out guys! thanks!

Yes, it can, at least with slim. Having slim installed, the openbox-logout script is under /bin , and working well.

Are you saying oblogout works with slim or openbox-logout works with slim?

They're each separate programs though I do know its easy to edit openbox-logout to work without GDM.

Oops, yes it's openbox-logout. Oblogout doesn't work with slim.

So i deleted GDM and used openbox-logout,and  it wrked fine, but after i restarted it kept looping back and restarting itself :l

That's exactly why I quit screwing with GDM. I wish they'd replace it with something else though for the sake of #! being lightweight. Just have SLiM, dash and Swiftfox instead of GDM, Bash and IceWeasel.
