Re: Absolute beginner help

Awesome! Thanks. big_smile

Re: Absolute beginner help

...that mean things worked out with Unetbootin???

I just recently did my first usb install, and after figuring out how to set BIOS to boot it, I loved it. Will probably not use CD/DVDs anymore at all.:D

Re: Absolute beginner help

um, well, no. But I am excited about it for my other computers.  I can't boot from USB on that old laptop.  I'm just going to get my cousin to burn me a CD.  (which I have to wait for, gggrrrrr).
I'm not too disapointed because the whole point of this experiment was to learn and I have learned a ton about setting up bios and how to use checksome and how live CD's work and all kinds of neet stuff.  So, even though I have failed (so far) I feel like it was a success.  I'm well on my way to making my own distro big_smile

Your own distro? That will take a lot of knowledge and skill. I think you mean doing a minimal install and building your system on top of that. That's exactly what I did and I'm far from being an expert. I'm only seriously using Linux for 3 to 4 months now! So yes, in the near future you will laugh about this issue and happily using your own system! wink

Let's do it and don't screw it.

Re: Absolute beginner help

LOL I. Never even knew what Linux was. Untill Aug 11th of this year and to be honest I'm about an 'above average' computer user, by no means a technician or programmer.
So yeah, "my own distro" is a bit of a stretch.  But I'd love some info about what you did!
