Topic: odd time problem in MOC

I realize MOC isn't included in the base Statler distro, but anyway...

It's having trouble reporting song lengths for VBR mp3's.  (For example, it reports "Walk on Water" from Big Ones as 49:29, when the actual song length is 4:55.)  I've repaired & rebuilt the XING headers, but to no avail.

Any idea if this is a previously reported bug, or if there's something special I need to install to fix this?  (My Google search-fu must be on the fritz this weekend.)  If not, I might have to go back to using one of the Winamp lookalikes...

Re: odd time problem in MOC

I've had this problem several times. For example, Universal Traveler by Air shows up as 23 minutes when it's 2, no matter where it is. On my iPod, iTunes, Winamp, Rhythmbox, mpd, MoC, and cplay.

I didn't ever manage to get it fixed. Have you looked at your song tags?

Yes; as I mentioned, I've rebuilt the XING headers using mp3diags.  (Very useful utility!  I mostly use it for editing id3v2.3.0 tags, but it's also good for other types of repair work.)  The time shows properly in Totem and VLC, just not MOC.  This makes me sad, because until now MOC has been my favorite music player, even though it doesn't do CD's.  (I especially like that it shows the total playlist time, which Totem and VLC do not display; now that total time is worthless because some files aren't being read right.)

Strange. Then I have no suggestions. It's over my head, obviously.

The changelog for MOC 2.1.0 includes "Fixed seeking and counting time in VBR mp3 files." Either counting time is not the same as length, or the bug returned.

BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.

Re: odd time problem in MOC

@anonymous:  Thanks for the heads-up; it looks like the bug has returned, because counting time is extremely wonky when seeking forward or back in a VBR file that shows the wrong length.

Well, I used to really like Winamp 2.8, so I guess this as good an excuse as any to get used to qmmp.  Plus, qmmp comes with a very basic graphic analyzer visualization plugin!
