Topic: Mirror choice

As I am a new user of #!,  I have many questions so here are some smile

Is there software or a  script that  I can add to #! that will help me to select the proper mirror to use ?
By proper mirror I mean one selected based on down load speed and or phisically closest to me.

If I have placed this in the wrong Forum I am sorry and ask that it be moved to the proper one.

I went to the link you provided and followed it step by step, However when I select Repositories I do not have a software sources window pop up, instead what I have is a pop up window that says Repositories changed click reload.
Therefore no way to continue to follow the how to in the link.

Is there only one depository mirror for CrunchBang ? Is that  why the different options and behavior from Synaptic in CrunchBang?

I switched out my hard drive and put in the one with Ubuntu and and followed the steps as outlined in the link you provided.
and Synaptic did have the same windows and produced the results as the example from the how to. Synaptic did indeed provide the speed test and automatically selected the fastest mirror.

Re: Mirror choice

Are you using CrunchBang 9.04 or Statler?

If you have Statler, try this instead:

I am using a fresh install of CrunchBang 10 Alpha 2 Statler Openbox

Sorry I thought I had placed that information in my signature and it was visible now.

Re: Mirror choice

Hello, Clay.  Remove software-properties-gtk from your installed files using synaptic.  There is one other file I think that is associated with it.  They keep you from from seeing your repositories and were in a download from Debian on or about the third of September.
