Topic: issues after do-release-upgrade
this is my second time running "sudo do-release-upgrade" on a crunchbang 9.04 based system.
the first, was more drastically modded already. this time, closer to vanilla crunchbang, so should be easier to see what's what.
issues i've had:
1. gdm, bloaty and annoying now.
2. boot up splash, changed to ubuntu and has bits of text poke through onto it. ~ mainly just a cosmetic issue.
3. shutdown fail.
4. synaptic crashes, kills it's self abruptly doing simple stuff.
my solutions so far:
1. install a different login manager.
currently opting for wdm, after LXDM caused more pains than joys, considering giving SLiM another whirl as well as trying others.
2. yet to investigate and impliment fixes for this, since it's just minor cosmetic stuff, and causes no real functional impedance.
3. have yet to get around to a fix for this yet, but i suspect it's probably just a permissions issue. add such n such user to such n such group/wheel/whatever.
4. am currently working on it.
it's late, n my nogin needs a refresh...
...but really, my sources.list shouldnt look like this at all, should it... not for a system that's supposedly lucid based now.

deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu karmic-security multiversei gave it a quick try replacing all the karmics for lucids... not sure if that's when the crashing started, but it certainly was happening then. and something had to be done... pretty sure there was loads of software that should have been available, not showing up in synaptic searches.
ach, dont ye just hate workin on something, and then cognitive failure and sleep comes and interrupts ye? XD zzz
ps.
okies, not quite gone to bed yet...
just did a
lsb_release -ato check, and seems i am on 9.10 after all. am now running
do-release-upgradea second time, to see if that brings me up to 10.04 fully. ...seems rather sloppy... must be pebcak.
