Topic: [SOLVED] GUI = Dark background and light font- how?

Hi.
Can't seem to find any information about how to make my entire setup with
dark background
and
light fonts

I've tried every menu I could find (or I know of) including the theme configs for openbox(my default GUI app).

What do I edit and where do I find it?

I want to simply geyt rid of all the bright white and light fields with black text (burns my eyes) and have it a dark color with lighter text.

Thank you!!!!

You need to change your GTK theme. Go to Openbox menu -> Preferences -> User Interface Settings

Here are a few sites where you can find additional themes:

Re: [SOLVED] GUI = Dark background and light font- how?

You can move the theme folders to either ~/.themes (you might need to create this folder) or /usr/share/themes. Then you can use lxappearance (User Interface Settings) to change the GTK themes.

As for GTK, it is a widget toolkit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gtk%2B

As far as themes are concerned though, you should just know that the widget toolkit controls things like textboxes, buttons, window backgrounds, scrollbars, etc. The Openbox themes only change the window titlebar and borders and the Openbox menu.

As for your last question. You can use obmenu or a text editor to look at your Openbox menu and look at the commands. The majority of programs will have a manpage that includes a brief description of the program as well as help on using its parameters (in a terminal just run "man programname" without quotes). Otherwise you can just search the program name on Google.

-DOH!
thanks Anonymous.
I just edited my last post after realizing what to do a search on, and then learning about GTK and where to put the themes and what the difference is between openbox and other things... *chuckle*
You all are FAST here. I'm always amazed at the #! folks. FAST and ON IT.
In the future I'll wait a few minutes longer before I post, while changing my google search terms- often it seems one just needs to know what the question really is, then the answer becomes something easy to find.
