Not necessary. Unetbootin will install it directly to the hard drive (instead of a USB); change the little "type" drop box from "USB" to "Hard Drive." ![]()
What are you trying to do? Do you want to install Crunchbang (or any Linux distro) by USB?
hmm thank you snowpine
i did this before at school on a engineering computer i forgot how i did it. but from what you just said
i probably didn't care to break the installation of windows so i must have just made unetbootin go to the hard drive
i will try this in a virtual machine with xp then windows 7 and i wil return with what unetbootin does to boot.ini so we can learn other ways to manual boot linux
Unia i am trying to make a live usb that boots off the hard drive in a windows partition
the reason behind this is its pesky fill a usb for live booting unless your going to install. I am not installing
it is wasteful to burn a cd when there will be lots of updates and versions that i would normally just re download.
by using the hard drive you can update the live cd without waste of a usb drive or a cd
you also get a much faster experience in the live os since its run faster from the hard drive

Thats so unfair unetbootin makes different files when you install it to a hard drive. it makes a .ldr file
but it works thankx
You could create a dedicated partition on your HD, say, 1Gig, then use that one as the install media instead of the USB key.
