Topic: [SOLVED] Repository help

First new to linux but loving it... after several distros i found CB alpha 2... connected to network but for some reason package manager errors "http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/statler/dists/statler/Release.gpg: Could not resolve 'packages.crunchbanglinux.org'
http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/sta … en_US.bz2: Could not resolve 'packages.crunchbanglinux.org"

any one help me with this... im  just wanting to add a few things like pidgin and a couple more

Re: [SOLVED] Repository help

(thought i would add i had to disable the ipv6 setting in the browser config to connect to my router, didnt know if that would be affecting it)

yes i can
edited my source.list and now i am getting
Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.

Re: [SOLVED] Repository help

Using a browser, I can access those two repos as well. Can you ping those two sites?

ping -c 5 ftp.de.debian.org
ping -c 5 www.debian-multimedia.org

Re: [SOLVED] Repository help

my source.list..
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org squeeze main non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free

1) When there are two lines, deb and deb-src, the second line, deb-src, is for source files. Unless you are a computer whizz you do not need source files. Therefore only take the first line. You can stop the two deb-src lines.

2) Since you have a line that says "deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main " I think that your security line should also include "contrib non-free" so that it reads "deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main contrib non-free"

3) The last two lines basically say the same thing, but I think that the first of the two (it says squeeze) works and the second doesn't (it says testing).

4) I think that Debian Multimedia has a key. Have you installed: debian-multimedia-keyring ? Look at the first Q and A here: "Why apt-get doesn't find this public key : NO_PUBKEY 07DC563D1F41B907 ?" - http://debian-multimedia.org/faq.php

SO, your source list could consist of three lines:

deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ squeeze main

Run this command in a Terminal:

sudo apt-get update && apt-get install debian-multimedia-keyring && apt-get update

Re: [SOLVED] Repository help

Can I use the hacktolive repository in CB Statler 2? Thank you. Regards.

Re: [SOLVED] Repository help

@Arnold Martin

1) Please don't add a question on to to end of someone's post. It is better to start your own post.

2) I think there is no advantage to adding Hacktolive. Do you mean the so called SuperDeb - http://hacktolive.org/wiki/SuperDeb ? It uses Ubuntu repositories and adds very little.
