Topic: driver issue: Realtek 8111C . can't connect

hey today i finally had some time to install crunchbang
the installation went smooth no problems...
(im new to linux altho i tried a few other wellknown distros)
im not very good at it bc I mainly use windows.. )

ok so now to the problem there is no inet connection...
i have no idea why all of the previous distros worked "out of the box"
i have this motherboard GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L
LAN Chipset Realtek 8111C
anyone else had this problem? what should i do?
edit: also have a wired connection smile

Re: driver issue: Realtek 8111C . can't connect

i'm sorry but can you clarify some points: (i don't really understand the problem, apart from "it does not work how I want it" :-)

  • do you have two ways to connect to the internet? (wired, wireless?), which one works? which does not?

  • do you use crunchabng 9.04 or 10 ?

  • does the internet connection work with a different computer?

i hope i can help you if you can give me some of this info

Re: driver issue: Realtek 8111C . can't connect

Re: driver issue: Realtek 8111C . can't connect

now I understand you (i think i now even understand the logic of your first post)

what should i do?

i can give you two hints (sorry both are not perfect solutions already)

1. try google "linux"+"ubuntu"+"Realtek 8111C":
after a quick search i found this:
http://www.jamesonwilliams.com/hardy-r8168 maybe you can start there

2. you said you installed CrunchBang 9.04. So FYI this will soon be an outdated version of linux (not yet so no need to worry smile) but if you have just installed crunchbang to play with it or see some linux i can recommend you the new version (under development but already GREAT) -> CrunchBang 10 "Statler" (you said you are not familiar with linux, then the xfce version might be your choice)

EDIT: i just read across some pages and think you might be lucky with option 2
AND: you could edit your title from "lan problem" to some like "driver issue: Realtek 8111C . can't connect"
to do so scroll up to your first post and press the "edit" link.
