Topic: [solved]xp won't boot after crunchbang statler install
I first defragged the xp partition, used disk clean on C drive, and deleted temp files. Then I used gparted to reduce the size of the xp partiton to 30 gb on a 120 gb drive. Then I created a 10 gb partition for the #! install, a 2 gb swap file, and used the remainder for a /home partition. The install went fine and did the updates and installed Open Office. Did some more tweaking like installing icedove and using another disktop picture. I even, I thought, reset grub to put xp as the default. Then when I re-booted xp was not the default and it got hung up during boot. After that I tried xp in safe mode. It got to system32 and hung again. I left it alone and did something else and when I came back it had booted into #!. I tried to use a XP cd to fix the mbr but so far am not able to do that. The first thing that I see on the screen even with the xp install cd is "welcome to grub" and then the menu. I typed in c at the boot menu and got to grub but don't know enough about what to do from there. I don't seem to be able to get to the xp cd to fix mbr. Does anyone have any ideas that I might try?
edit
In safe mode it gets to system32\drivers\mup.sys and then goes into safe mode. I also found that I didn't have a xp install cd in the drive. It was just sp2. I will regroup and post back after I try the actual xp install cd.
