Topic: Installing A Downloaded Package

Hi Guys,
Extreme noob here.
Can someone help.
I downloaded Latest Version of gEdit (2.90) package on my machine. Now I want to install it. What are the commands...Yeah I know I know big_smile
I tried Synaptic, but it only shows me the older version.
And I would definitely appreciate what "Repositories" you guys use.
My Synaptic Package was pointing to UK....
Thanks!

Re: Installing A Downloaded Package

Nevermind, I found "How-To" on the Net....They say it is a tedious task. Well, then I come with a new question.
How Do I update my gEdit to 2.90? Current Version is 2.20.

Re: Installing A Downloaded Package

Which distribution are you using? Gedit is at 2.30 (the current stable version according to the gedit website) in the current CrunchBang Statler Alpha 2.

Re: Installing A Downloaded Package

I put up a how-to for using sneakernet here:

You can use dpkg or there's a more complicated technique using dpkg-scanpackages
Haven't been able to get my Internet connection working with Crunchbang yet, so the dpkg-scanpackages technique has been working really well for me so far.

Re: Installing A Downloaded Package

@lm, thanks for that useful how-to smile
I noticed there's a package in squeeze called apt-offline. I haven't tried it out, but you might find it interesting.

Re: Installing A Downloaded Package

Assuming you did mean 2.30, is there a particular reason you want the newer version?
