Topic: Crunchy Fedora?

I love CrunchBang Statler, but I'm checking which distros would make a good base for an "Operating System for Development", or OS4Dev. Light, reliable and very well supported are key, so Debian and Fedora are the main contenders.

(Other factors are that I need a distro where hibernate works, and it doesn't for me in Statler Alpha 2; I'm told Fedora's repos have more of the latest versions of software; and a friend has offered to help make a Fedora spin if we decide to do that.)

So I plan to install Fedora on a separate partition and see if I can tweak it to something that's a lot like CrunchBang Statler Xfce, but slightly easier for newbies. Has anyone done something similar?

I love the Openbox version, but Xfce is a more newbie-friendly. So I guess I'll start with the Fedora Xfce spin and tweak from there.

FedoraBang, anyone? :-)

I'd also really appreciate input on the OS4Dev. Thanks!

Learning Linux slowly because I'm busy with Appropedia

Re: Crunchy Fedora?

I used Fedora Xfce for a long time. I didn't try to #!-ify it or anything, but it was a darn good distro and I had few problems with it, the most annoying being trying to install openoffice (I don't remember what the problem was exactly, but it took me a long time to solve it). Fedora's package management system, yum, is just as refined as apt and actually gives you a little more information about what it's doing.

Now that you have me thinking about it, I might replace my #! 9.04 partition with Fedora... tongue

Re: Crunchy Fedora?

Luke Macken has created an Openbox based Fedora Security LiveCD:

There's no tint2 packages for Fedora, so follow the link here: http://arcierisinasce.wordpress.com/201 … -fedora13/

Edit: Been testing Fedora 14 beta, and tint2 is now included in the repositories.
