Topic: Laptop will not turn on ...

I accidentally plugged in my friend's laptop charger cable into my computer (they look identical and were plugged into the same wall socket).  It went fine for about an hour, then the laptop just shut off.  It didn't seem overly warm, I got no error messages.  It won't turn on now, either plugged in or not (this time with the correct charger).  Any suggestions?

Re: Laptop will not turn on ...

Was your friend's charger designed for a much high voltage than yours?  I thought most laptops were similarly powered from about 16-20 volts.

What exactly happens when you press the power button?  Any lights, sounds, anything?

take the battery out, and then plug it in with the correct cable, that might fix the problem.

Her laptop is an Alienware MX11 ... so quite a bit more powerful.  I guess it is possible it was pumping too much power in, and fried something?  When I hit the power button, absolutely nothing happens.  No lights, sounds, nothing.

Edit: I am at work right now, so I don't have access to the chargers or laptop ... sorry if I can't answer very specific questions.  I will try a few things tonight to try and fix it, and update here with specifics (charger voltage, etc.) if nothing works.

I tried that already, doesn't seem to change anything.  I might try a hard reset when I get home.

Fixed!  I took the battery out, unplugged it, held the power button for 60 seconds (hard reset) and then plugged it back in, leaving the battery out, and it turned on, with no other (noticeable) problems.
