Topic: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

I just noticed that Ubuntu 9.04 will reach end of life on October 23 2010. Since Crunchbang 9.04 is based on this, should one assume that it is probably not a good idea to continue running it? No security updates and the upgrade path via Ubuntu 9.10 makes it even less appealing.

Does this also imply that there is no "stable" release of Crunchbang?

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

Correct...and correct.

People will tell you that there's no *official* stable release but that Statler alpha is pretty damn stable as it is.

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

Statler has been more stable than alot of official releases I have used lately.  It is unstable in name only!

I willfully participate in a campaign of misinformation!

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

I wasn't implying that Statler is not stable. I've been using it since the day it came out and it's damn brilliant.

I guess I'm asking if Statler should now become the "stable" CrunchBang version and get rid of the 9.04 links on the home page...

In between the time that Jaunty loses support and Statler goes final, this may happen. Theres not much that can be done about it though.

Also I don't think corenominal will change the website until the new CrunchBang is released.

There's still almost a month left, and I'm sticking with 9.04 until the bitter end on one of my old laptops! smile

Switched to Statler on my everyday computer, though. smile

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

I think if you run CB 9.04, that's a stable release from the "Ubuntu era" of CB,
but I think there's nothing to afraid from Statler...
I just installed it, and all the problems I have is: I must set up my huawei e1750 USB modem somehow..

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

ps CrunchBang 8.04 is a "stable release" and will be supported through APril 2011 (but how many of us are still using it? smile)

Re: Ubuntu 9.04 - End of life

When Crunchbang 9.04 goes past it's "end of life" . . . so long as it still works . . . you 'can' continue to use it.

There are still people using Mint-5 or Debian 4 (these distros are well past EOL) . . . just makes them more stable.

Yeah,  you're right. I guess this is just a remnant of paranoia left over from my Microsoft days.
