Running real nice in Statler and it looks like the font issues with Opera have been fixed.
I've been an Opera user for years and it is one of the first things I installed on the Statler box, fast and reliable as always
Does Opera have an extension that is comparable to Ad Block Plus, or Download Helper? Those are the two add-ons that I love to death in Firefox. I used Opera a while ago, and like a lot of its features (Turbo-mode, built in bit-torrent client), but really like these add-ons and customization options in Firefox / Iceweasel.
I'm not sure about Ad-Block but their download manager opens up a new tab rather than a small pop-up box as in Firefox.
Opera still has a few more hurdles to jump over before it can replace Firefox as a default browser but I like the progress they are making. The browser is fast and has a clean UI and more screen display is made available to the user than in Firefox.
Opera Unite
Opera Synch
Opera Widgets
Are interesting features as well.
Opera has a built-in content blocker. It isn't specifically an ad-blocker, but you can import those adblock rules from the FF extension.
Been using Opera for 15 years, so here are a few useful links I've gathered since:

Wow, thanks! You have convinced me to at least try it out extensively :-)
Also, Download Helper is an add-on that lets you download streaming videos, usually in .flv format (which VLC has support for out-of-the-box). It creates a handy icon next to the "Home" icon in Firefox, and is a two-click application to download almost every video you can find online. Super useful for things that I can only find, for example, on Youtube (Tchaikovsky Piano Trio played by Horowitz, Shostakovitch, and Stern).
For streaming videos downloads, check ExtendOpera site ( http://dirkwelt.nl/ ); it has got many YouTube downloaders, force HD, protection remover and so on.... or http://userscripts.org/tags/opera .
Edit: Or you can use this recent widget: http://widgets.opera.com/widget/9402/

@oupsemma - thanks for the links ![]()
I've been testing it after reading this thread, and it looks great! It has crashed once, but the "turbo" setting is very helpful on my slowed-down satellite connection. I do wish I could use the Back button more effectively though, rather than just one page at a time. In Iceweasel/Iceape you can use the li'l arrow next to the Back button to select a page you want to go back to. No arrow in Opera yet... and I haven't tried the e-mail client out yet. Still, it's fast! Quite different from Firefox/Iceweasel. Takes a bit of getting used to.

You can do that; just put your arrow on the back button, click it and maintain it clicked, you will get the list of the pages you've been visiting with this tab; then select the one you want to go back to.
Otherwise, a Ctrl+H will give you your whole history.

Try right-clicking on the arrows. I think that should give you a list of pages.
I used to be an Opera fanboi, but I sue Google Chrome now.
For those of you who love the Opera Speed dial, I wrote a howto a while ago on adding more Speed Dial windows:

I too have come back to Opera after reading this thread. It is marginally faster than Firefox so far, and I love a lot of the features. With enough customization, it will probably be my main browser. I have one issue though so far, shouldn't be too hard to fix. I use the My Chess application on Facebook, but the actual chess games don't show up in Opera. It has a rotating wheel to show that it is loading, but never loads. I don't think it is a Flash issue, I made sure that was up to date as soon as I installed Opera. There are no error messages either ... it just keeps loading and loading and loading ...
Opera is dreadfully slow when running Zygna Texas Hold 'em but from what I've read, it's a QT issue with Flash and not an Opera one. The one thing I like about Opera is that it is written in QT, so Opera is the same across all platforms. The Opera in Windows is the same Opera in Linux. I hope that bug with QT and Flash gets resolved.

How much are you suing them for? And on what grounds? Just curious...
...and I can't resist poking friendly fun at spelling errors like that. ![]()
